3 Benefits of Decluttering Your Life

3 BENEFITS OF DECLUTTERING YOUR LIFE

declutter-home

Recently I needed to de-clutter my house to sell and in the process, I realized how much lighter I feel with less ‘stuff’ in my life.  Three benefits that I have experienced by simplifying and decluttering:

1.       My mind is clearer. I am spending less time considering my junk and more time considering my business and my vision.

2.       I have had more time to work my business since I am not distracted by things that are not vital to my vision

3.       Bonus - it is easier to keep my space clean and functional

If you are feeling burdened and stressed, consider simplification.  Don’t become stressed about it, start with a drawer or a closet and build up to whole rooms.  It is absolutely, positively amazing how it frees up our spirit person to be more creative and productive!

Kick Pain to the Curb: 3 Natural Pain Relievers

Kick Pain to the Curb: 3 Natural Pain Relievers

Hard-charging entrepreneurs inevitably get aches and pains. Instead of reaching for the Advil or Alleve try some of my favorite natural pain relievers.

My number one must have is Arnica. I keep both topical and homeopathic remedies on hand at all times. Rub a little arnica on a bruise and it minimizes the bruising. Arnica helps with inflammation and pain. I have been using Arnica gel for years and swear by it. Adding the homeopathic arnica further aids your body in healing from the inside out.

Another must have is turmeric. Yes, it is a spice used for cooking but when taken in tea form or capsule form it is even more impressive. Turmeric is a powerful anti-inflammatory and can help decrease pain by decreasing inflammation.

The third must have is ginger. This is another herb used in cooking and it is powerful used this way.  It is another powerful anti-inflammatory herb and can be consumed in tea or capsule form.

When turmeric and ginger are combined in tea form they are a powerhouse. I have included a tea recipe that I enjoy for your enjoyment:

•    4 tsp turmeric and 2 tsp ginger (grated or powdered)
•    1-2 ½ tsp cinnamon (this is based on personal taste)
•    Pinch of black pepper
•    1 tsp vanilla extract and 2 tsp raw honey
•    ½ cup coconut milk

Fill a mug half way with boiling water, add turmeric and ginger, cover and let steep for 10-15 minutes, stir in cinnamon, black pepper, vanilla extract and raw honey, then add the coconut milk and enjoy.

TIP: I purchase turmeric and ginger root at my local farmers market and dry it myself.

Success Strategy #3: Your Words

  • Are you speaking success into your life?

UP ALL NIGHT? 4 TIPS TO IMPROVE YOUR SLEEP

Article by Darlene Dunn

Magazine: Issue #37

You have probably heard the saying, “If you want something done, give it to a busy person." That statement probably pertains to most entrepreneurs. We go, go, go… but what happens when we run out of steam? We crash, that’s what.

Here are 4 tips to help improve your sleep:

1| I take a wonderful magnesium supplement called Natural Calm made by Natural Vitality. I just heat some water and mix 1-2 tsp and sip about 30 minutes or so before bedtime. It relaxes me and helps me turn my mind off so I can fall asleep. Be careful- don’t fill your cup to the brim because when you add the supplement, it fizzes!!! Magnesium is an essential mineral that most of us are lacking but if you are taking any medication, please check with your healthcare provider to be sure your medications do not interact with magnesium.

2| Put some lavender oil in a warm/hot bath and soak away the stresses of the day. Lavender is a natural way to relax

3| Play some quiet relaxing music. Classical, harp, instrumental. It doesn’t matter, as long as it relaxes you. I do this every night and I am usually asleep by the 3rd track.

4| Make sure your room/sleeping area is dark. If light is coming in through your windows from street lights, hang darker, light blocking curtains. If you need to, wear eye covers. Your body loves the dark when it rests.

There are many more natural ways to relax and fall asleep. Pick one and try it, see if it is right for you. Adequate sleep is the number one way to refuel your body so you can hit the ground running and keep changing the world!!!!

How to Heal Adrenal Fatigue: Be Kind To Your Adrenals

How to Heal Adrenal Fatigue: Be Kind To Your Adrenals

As entrepreneurs, we are always on the go and often let ourselves get so caught up in pursuing our dream that we let our bodies down. When our stress levels escalate, combined with poor eating habits and little sleep, our adrenals can become worn down. When our adrenal glands are functioning well, we are able to handle so much more!

Here are five quick and easy tips to be kind to your adrenals:

1 :: Avoid all refined sugar and soda-- sugar is the enemy for your adrenals
2 :: Don’t skip meals and eat healthy snacks throughout the day-- the steadier your blood sugar remains, the less extra work your adrenals need to do. I keep nuts in my desk drawer, so when I realize I haven’t eaten, I can eat a handful of nuts!
3 :: Limit caffeine intake-- okay, okay, this one may not be so easy for us to achieve but at least try!
4 :: Read labels on any food you purchase-- the fewer the ingredients, the better. Avoid partially hydrogenated oils and chemical additives.
5 :: Slow down to allow some rejuvenation-- take a ‘5-minute getaway'-- shut your eyes and envision your ‘happy place’.

Breathe and relax!

Setting Up Your Holistic Business

SETTING UP YOUR HOLISTIC BUSINESS

Entrepreneurship: A Family Affair

Entrepreneurship: A Family Affair

Magazine: Issue #34

When my husband and I decided to open our holistic business 9 years ago, we decided we would not go into debt to do it. We took some cash from our household savings (this was later paid back to the household budget) and started our business. We started with a vision and a solid business plan over the years we have modified our business plan to reflect our goals for growth.

Initially, we rented a small room and then as our business grew we were able to rent a larger space. We made several mistakes as we started our business; but we learned from them and grew. Remember, a mistake doesn’t mean failure unless you quit. We were naïve and allowed landlords too much control; these were painful and costly mistakes but we persevered and learned.

In our holistic business we have licenses and insurance fees that are on set schedules. We set up a business saving account so we put money into that account to save for these expenses; this way large chunks of money do not come out of our account monthly. Another big tip we have for any entrepreneur; save EVERY receipt.

It is easier to determine you cannot deduct something than it is to reproduce a missing receipt.

We are very proud that our small business has survived almost a decade now. Running our own business is a family affair. Our 12-year old daughter earns money by helping with data entry and mailings to our clients. I want to encourage everyone that it is possible to be successful as an entrepreneur. I still work full time as a nurse and part time in our business; however, my husband is full-time in our business. Our goal is for both of us to eventually be full-time in our business; however, this is not the season for that, and that is okay.

Decide on your business, make a business plan, and step out in FAITH! You got this!
