3 Benefits of Decluttering Your Life

3 BENEFITS OF DECLUTTERING YOUR LIFE

declutter-home

Recently I needed to de-clutter my house to sell and in the process, I realized how much lighter I feel with less ‘stuff’ in my life.  Three benefits that I have experienced by simplifying and decluttering:

1.       My mind is clearer. I am spending less time considering my junk and more time considering my business and my vision.

2.       I have had more time to work my business since I am not distracted by things that are not vital to my vision

3.       Bonus - it is easier to keep my space clean and functional

If you are feeling burdened and stressed, consider simplification.  Don’t become stressed about it, start with a drawer or a closet and build up to whole rooms.  It is absolutely, positively amazing how it frees up our spirit person to be more creative and productive!

What Van Morrison Taught Me About Giving Up

WHAT VAN MORRISON TAUGHT ME
ABOUT GIVING UP

What Van Morrison Taught Me About Giving Up

What Van Morrison Taught Me About Giving Up

With a new moon in Leo, we’re finally moving out of the sluggish, “I don’t want to do it” mentality and into a mindset of taking action towards finishing projects so we may relish in the fruits of our labor. However, sometimes getting your groove back is easier said than done.

During the hottest month of the year, most of us are vacationing by the beach and taking that much needed R&R with the hopes of recharging our batteries, but that doesn’t mean our projects need to take the back burner.

I’ll be the first to admit that I love starting new projects— I could literally launch a new idea everyday, but that doesn’t mean it will be well thought through or that I always finish what I start. You see, project starting and project finishing are two very different mindsets. One involves the creative, idea-generating process (which most of us ladies really love) and then there is the execution part of the project to see it through to it’s finale (a much more masculine part of the process).

And yes, you can guess that it is the latter where most of us women begin to fumble. Why is it that starting a new project is exciting and exhilarating, but seeing a project (or desire) to it’s completion trips us up and gets us to drop the ball?

I needed a sign to help me figure out this one.

Yesterday I asked my angels to give me a sign I would without a doubt understand that would assure me about project I was thinking about throwing the towel on and they did just that.

This morning while showering with my iPhone blazing Spotify, one of my all time favorite songs came on, Into the Mystic by Van Morrison. The last line in that song said, “it’s too late to stop now” was a huge wake up call.

If you’ve already spent hours, blood, sweat, and tears on a project, why on Earth would you stop now? The hardest part of materializing project is coming up with the idea in the first place!

When you’re struggling with stay focused or self-doubt is creeping in, here are a few tips to light a fire under your booty:

1) Talk to Your Angels
If you haven’t tried speaking with your angels yet, there truly is no better time to open up the communication lines than when you’re feeling like giving up. To reach your angels, you merely need to sit quietly and ask them for guidance, “Dear angel, I am struggling with knowing if I should complete this project, please show me a sign that I will understand that will help me know I am on the right path for the highest good of all.”

It’s really that simple. You will be shocked how incredibly eye-opening this can be!

2) Figure Out What’s Stopping You
Sometimes the problem behind completing a task or materializing our desires is understanding where the block is coming from. This is a huge puzzle piece! Many times we worry the next stage in the process will either take too much time, it sounds boring (or even treacherous), or we aren’t quite sure what the next steps should be.

To unlock what is preventing you from continuing, we need to ask different questions. You’ll be happy to know that the reason for your delaying a project is usually because you want to start another one! You have a lot of creative ideas and a ton of things you want to materialize in your life, so giving up on a current project seems like a reasonable solution, when in reality it’s actually the opposite.

When you choose to stop one project to open space for another one, you actually are creating clutter in your mind and a cluttered mind can’t finish any project! So the next time you come up with another awesome idea, be sure you complete your current project so you can move ahead with clarity on all future projects.

3) Ask for Help
I know this seems pretty obvious, but I can probably guess if you’re reading this you’re probably an over-achiever (and over-achievers seldom ask for help). Asking for help is equivalent to making your project more fun! Finding the right kind of people or tools to help you complete your project is not only educational, but it's actually the part of your creative process that you love: problem-solving!

I usually resort to watching tutorials on Youtube when I want to try a new technique or learn a new skill, but you could also post in Facebook groups to see if someone with a particular skill might want to get involved. This is such a fun part of completing a project because you get smarter and you make new friends!

In closing, starting new projects without completing half-baked ones will only lead to more mental chaos, which will not help you materialize your dreams. Van Morrison said it frankly, “it’s too late to stop now.” My angels brought me that sign and now not only am about to materialize a project I have been working on for years, I get to share my newfound wisdom with my favorite holistic leader: you!

From one Holistic Fashionista to another, you got this! Now go follow those dreams to their completion.

3 Secrets to Finding Your Intuitive Voice

3 SECRETS TO FINDING YOUR INTUITIVE VOICE

Secret to Finding Your Intuitive Voice

Secret to Finding Your Intuitive Voice

Admittedly we do have voices in our head, we do not like to admit this and most certainly have been told at some point in our lives not to listen to them. In dualistic existence we know good and evil exist, but before I get too crazy over this I would like to bring to light that this is about your personal intuition. I’m not talking about wild psychotic voices in your head, I’m talking about that one voice in your head that knows you best and always knows the right answer for you at every turn. “Your intuitive voice”.

Those in science will tell you that intuition is created from experience and repetition, allowing one to make decisions based on these beliefs. This belief allows us to take shortcuts in our decisions which can work for and against us. But that is science and I will just leave this bit alone. Intuition is so much more than what science will tell us. In a spiritual existence your intuitive voice is the one and only one, that knows you, guides you, and never lies to you. This is the voice you need to reach and ignore all others.

I truly do believe that this voice is in all of us and if we search, meditate, and incorporate “that gut feeling”, we can reach our maximum potential with intuition allowing us that perfect trust in our decisions as entrepreneurs. Now for the fun part, how do you tune into this voice and learn to make decisions that you know are already right without questioning each decision. It will take only a bit practice in order to connect to your intuitive voice.

Practice one: Energy Method. Trust in your sixth sense. Imagine that your whole existence, emotions, and intellect could stretch outward and forever to capture sensations, information, inspiration, knowledge, and wisdom like waves of energy. Let yourself walk through your day sensitive to all of these energies.

Practice two: Meditative Method. Find a place to sit comfortably and quietly. Focus on your breath, taking several deep breaths until your mind is clear. When you are relaxed, identify an event or that you'd like more insight about. Focus on the event for a few minutes. Connect with your inner voice and listen to what it has to say in regards to your event. It is also helpful to keep a journal next to you, so when you are done you can write down any memory of this intuitive conversation.

Practice three: Question Method. Ask yourself questions. Such as what is it I am most concerned about or most interested in growing now, relationship skills, personal growth, career. Create a question and ask it internally as often as you can. Listen to your inner voice and receive your answer.

These are just a few practices that you can utilize in finding and listening to your intuitive voice. Remember to practice often and build a “perfect love and perfect trust” relationship with your one voice that guides you to a more intuitive lifestyle. I hope these practices allow you a healthy long lasting relationship with your intuition.

Grilled Pizza with Garden Vegetables

GARDEN VEGETABLES

Magazine: Issue #42

Ingredients

Dough
2 ½ cups white whole wheat flour
2 ¾ tsp baking powder
2 tsp sea salt
1 tbsp olive oil
¾ cup warm water +1/4 more if needed

Topping
½ cup marinara sauce
1 heirloom tomato, cut into chunks
1 small red onion, sliced
1 head of garlic, peeled
1 ear of corn, shucked
5 stalks of kale, chopped and sautéed
1 tbsp olive oil
½ tbsp sea salt
½ tbsp black pepper
¼ cup fresh basil, chopped

Directions

1. Preheat gas grill to medium high heat.

2. In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine dry ingredients. With the mixer turned on and fitted with the hook attachment, pour in wet ingredients. Allow to mix until dough ball is formed. If dough is dry, add more water, 1 tbsp at a time. On a floured surface, roll dough out to ¼ inch thick.

3. Drizzle olive oil on both sides of dough and place directly on grill. Cook about 8 minutes, or until bubbles have formed throughout crust. Flip and cook for an addition 5 minutes.

4. Place all vegetables, including garlic, directly onto the grill. Sometimes, if I have smaller pieces of vegetables I will use a grill basket so that they won’t slip through the grill. Cook for 7 minutes on each side. You will need to turn the corn cob several times in order to cook all sides evenly. Remove from grill once vegetables have grill marks.

5. Cut corn kernels off the cobb. Spread marinara sauce over crust and place all vegetables on pizza. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, and fresh basil. Serve warm.

The Magic of Prebiotics and Probiotics

THE MAGIC OF PREBIOTICS AND PROBIOTICS

Article by Jacqueline Rizk
Magazine: Issue #42

What’s the big deal about bacteria?

Everywhere we look, every time we consult Dr. Google we get the information that probiotics are the cornerstone to health and wellness. Remember, probiotics are the “good” bacteria.

In fact, there are thousands of probiotics on the market today. Couple that with the advice that everything you eat and drink be fermented; from kombucha to kimchi, these days it’s all about the bacteria.

Although I don’t always agree with the injudicious use of probiotics (some strains can actually cause imbalances in the body) there is something everyone can and should do incorporate into their diet to harness the power of food as medicine. Prebiotics can have a profound effect on the health of the gut and even the immune system

Probiotics may get all the press, prebiotics are the digestive darlings with their soluble fiber that, among other things, feed the good bacteria in your gut and while those good bacteria are feasting on probiotics the byproducts called short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) which inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteria. In fact, there is a lot of research being done on SCFAs which is showing promising results in colon cancer prevention, relief from chronic constipation and even inducing remission in those with inflammatory bowel diseases such as Chron’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis.

So What’s a Prebiotic?

Prebiotic foods are everywhere. Bananas, chicory root, Jerusalem and regular artichokes, raw greens, leeks, raw onions, raw garlic, tiger nuts, psyllium husks, konjac root, carob and oat bran are great examples of prebiotic foods.

A few of these prebiotic foods have several other benefits that are great for the waistline, too. Psyllium husks, konjac root and oat bran, for example, absorb water and swells in your digestive tract which aids in the feeling of satiety and fullness. This can help in slower gastric emptying which helps stabilize blood sugar. This also leads to increased leptin sensitivity thus helping you shed any excess pounds.

Bonus Points for Oat Bran.

Even though I am not big on most grains, oat bran has a special place in my heart as a prebiotic food. This unsung ‘superfood’ increases mucous production in the small intestine, which, in turn gives bile acids and digestive enzyme a greater chance of breaking down the foods you eat and delays transit time through the digestive tract giving your body the best chance of absorbing the nutrients of what you eat!

Oat bran is also beta-glucan rich which is important because, as the systems of the body don’t exist in a vacuum, there are always intersections between systems. Oat bran being a prebiotic and beta-glucan rich is where gut health and immunity meet.

To make a long story short, beta-glucans have the unique ability to activate and modulate your immune system.

In short, giving oat bran a place at your breakfast table will boost both the health of your gut and your immune system and, before reaching for a probiotic pill, think about what you might have in your refrigerator right now that can feed the good bacteria that already exists in your gut!

7 Unconventional Confidence Builders for Divorced Women

7 UNCONVENTIONAL CONFIDENCE BUILDERS
FOR DIVORCED WOMEN

7 Unconventional Confidence Builders for Divorced Women

7 Unconventional Confidence Builders for Divorced Women

Article by Camille Ditele

Magazine: Issue #42

A rocky marriage and subsequent divorce could make your self-confidence crumble. You’re suddenly unsure about yourself and your future. You might even feel like a failure.

Regaining your confidence doesn’t have to be difficult or complicated. Here are some unconventional but practical tips that will empower you:

1 | Own the Responsibility and Take Charge

Some divorced women would blame their ex for their deflated self-confidence, but the blame game never really accomplishes anything worthwhile. Remember this: you can only regain your self-confidence if you take charge of how you feel about yourself. Refuse to allow your ex, in-laws or anyone else to make you feel small or unworthy. To paraphrase a quote from Eleanor Roosevelt, nobody can make you feel unworthy or incapable of anything without your consent.

Don’t wait for another man to make you feel beautiful and confident. Real confidence comes from within. If you continually seek approval or external validation to feel good about yourself, you’ll always be insecure. But if your confidence is deeply rooted within you, nothing can shake it.

2 | Remind Yourself of Your Good Qualities

If your confidence takes a big hit because of your divorce, you need to remind yourself of all the good that is in you. Grab a pen and a piece of paper and make a list of your positive traits, talents, achievements, and all the compliments and praises you’ve received. This might make you feel uncomfortable because it seems “braggy.” But you don’t have to feel guilty, because this list is for your eyes only. Read your list often and give yourself permission to feel good.

3 | Let Your Guilt Speak to You, Then Let It Go

When you’ve done something wrong, it’s normal to feel guilty. The purpose of guilt is to prevent you from repeating the mistakes you’ve made. It’s also a sign that your moral compass is in good working order. The next time you hear the voice of guilt, ask these questions, “What can I do better? What should I avoid doing in the future?”

But be careful not to let guilt overcome you. Unbridled guilt will make you feel unworthy and less confident. It will also make you want to punish yourself. Allow your guilt to speak to you so it can teach you the lessons you need to learn, but let it go once you have resolved to do better.

Focus on learning from your mistakes. Remember that when you learn from your mistakes, you become better and wiser. And because you know better now, you’ll be more confident in handling your next relationship should you later decide to be with someone new.

4 | Dare to Look Gorgeous…For You and You Alone!

You may feel terrible about what happened, but that’s not an excuse to look terrible. Your appearance says a lot about what’s going on inside you and how you treat yourself. You don’t need a liposuction or plastic surgery to look gorgeous, but you may need a bit of makeup and a visit to the salon. You might even need to revamp your entire wardrobe and maybe take frequent trips to the gym. It may take some work and you might need to spend quite a bit of money, but you’re worth it!

Regardless of what you do to improve your appearance, don’t do it because you want to attract men or somebody in particular. Instead, do it to feel good and to be more confident about yourself. Confidence is sexy.

5 | Upgrade Your Knowledge and Skills

You might be feeling insecure about your finances now that you’ve gotten divorced. Maybe you relied too much on your ex for your financial needs. Whatever the case is, you need to believe that you can stand on your own feet. But for you to be able to do that, you need to acquire knowledge and skills that will help you land a high paying job or build a high-income business. And the more knowledge and skills you have, the more valuable and confident you will be as a professional.

There are plenty of free and paid learning resources on the internet. You can also check the universities and colleges in your area for courses that you can afford.

6 | Go Kick Some Butt!

Nothing builds self-confidence quite like a sense of accomplishment. Even the smallest of achievements can give your confidence a much-needed boost, and they can lead to greater successes. Maybe you put aside some of your dreams when you got married. Now that you have a freer schedule, it’s time to move your goals from the backburner to your list of top priorities. Success, no matter how small, breeds confidence.

7 | Help People

Helping people can also give you a sense of accomplishment and strengthen your self-worth. You will gain the respect of your community and people will value their relationship with you. It will also keep you too busy to feel sorry about yourself. Look for opportunities to volunteer and donate your talent, time, and money to a worthy cause.

Divorce may be the end of a chapter in your life, but it also gives you a fresh start. But before you can move on to a new chapter, you need to work on yourself first, heal the wounds of the past, and rebuild what was damaged. Once you regain your confidence and learn to trust yourself, you can change your life and be a better version of yourself.

What to Do When Your Business is Slow

What to Do When Your Business is Slow

What to Do When Your Business is Slow

WHAT TO DO WHEN YOUR BUSINESS IS SLOW

Article by John Scardina
Magazine: Issue #42

We all seek perfection as an entrepreneur so that our business will be clean cut and perfect in appearance and operation. To what extent do we really need to go to achieve this?

I was thinking the other day, mostly due to the fact that in my part of the world it has been hot and humid with little to no rain. You find ideas at the strangest times! While looking over the yard, garden and lawn I took notice that I would have little need to cut the grass for a while. A marvelous event for me, if you have seen the yard. A chance to have 3 additional hours all to me, that I own to do anything else. While deciding what to do with this extra time I realized something, although this weather has slowed or stunted the growth of the garden and lawn it did nothing to hinder the overabundance of weeds.

Wait for it now, remember I have an additional three hours to play with as I choose! Seriously, this is how I spend my free time. It hit me like a rock there is a parallel between the garden I stand on and often ground myself with, and my business!

In the garden or the lawn, we nurture and provide it with time, love, fertilizer (natural of course) all in order to keep it clean cut and perfect. This also happens in our business. We sometimes truly treat our business like a perfectly manicured lawn. We weed, water, cut and pull the weeds. But the second business slows down (gets dry if you will) things begin to wither away if we don’t adapt to the dry times. We need a plan to get us through these dry spells. We need our business to be like the weeds, adaptable and perfectly suited to thrive whether or not it’s watered.

We really need to create a business plan that adapts and grows like a weed in this ever changing world. A business that will grow and reach for the skies when there is not enough water (clients), when there is not any fertilizer (cash flow) coming to you. That ability to get you through the dry times!

All I’m saying here is to stop “Smelling the Roses” and “Embrace the weeds”, talk with the weeds and see what they have to say about survival during tough times. Apply this time spent in nature to your business and be prepared to be able to not just survive, but thrive during those tough times!

Now this would normally be the paragraph where I tell you how to thrive exactly like the weed, but I just started to understand the language of the weeds around here your, weeds may not speak the same language. Meditate on this analogy, with your weeds and see what they have to offer you in your business. Be prepared to adapt and change as needed, let your business be a weed.

QUINOA OATMEAL

Magazine: Issue #42

Looking for a different porridge option? Something as comforting as regular oatmeal but with a little extra protein and good nutrients? I got you.

I’m an eternal breakfast and especially oatmeal lover. Oats have been my go-to brekkie for so long and I eat them every morning with various toppings, such as fresh or frozen berries and fruits. This time I wanted to try a little different variation and cooked the oats with quinoa. As quinoa is the ‘superfood’ giving you all the 9 essential amino-acids to build up proteins in your body. That magic, grain-like, seed contains also a good amount of calcium and iron. I’d say the perfect power boost to your regular oatmeal, especially if enjoyed pre or post workout.

Vanilla Quinoa Oatmeal
(makes 2 servings)

1 cup water
⅓ cup quinoa
½ cup almond mylk (substitute to any other plant mylk)
½ cup rolled oats
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
pinch of salt

+ optional: 1 tbsp pure maple syrup

In a pot bring the water to boil. Rinse the quinoa with cold water and transfer to the pot with boiling water. Reduce the heat to medium and let simmer covered for about 15-20 minutes, occasionally stir.

Add the almond milk, rolled oats, vanilla extract and salt. Stir well to combine and let simmer for additional 5-10 minutes. Add more almond mylk if the porridge is getting too thick or you like a runnier structure. Serve with lots of fresh fruit or berries and enjoy!
