YIELD :: Makes 4 servings

Ingredients
1 1/2 lb. medium asparagus, trim woody ends and lower half of stalk peeled
    1 1/4 teaspoons salt
    2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
    1 tablespoon finely chopped onion
    1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
    1/8 teaspoon black pepper
    1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
2 hard-boiled large eggs at room temperature (optional)

Preparation
Prepare a bowl of ice and cold water.

Put asparagus in a 12-inch skillet, then cover with cold water. Bring water to a boil and add 1 teaspoons salt, then reduce heat and simmer asparagus, uncovered, until just tender, 6 to 8 minutes. Transfer with tongs to ice water, then to a clean kitchen towel. Pat dry.

Whisk together vinegar, onion, mustard, pepper, and remaining 1/4 teaspoon salt in a small bowl, then add oil in a slow stream, whisking until emulsified.

Halve eggs, then dice into another small bowl. Toss asparagus with 1 tablespoon vinaigrette in a large shallow bowl, then divide asparagus among 4 plates. Spoon additional vinaigrette over asparagus and top with egg. (Optional).

3 Empowerment Tools for Better Business Practices

3 Empowerment Tools for Better Business Practices

3 Empowerment Tools for Better Business Practices

3 EMPOWERMENT TOOLS FOR BETTER BUSINESS PRACTICES

Article by Sophie Mihalko

Magazine: Issue #29

There was never a better time than now to guide people out of the murkiness of the news, depressive moods of the economy and judgements of their bodies.

Today, more than ever, the world needs the bright lights that we are. Here are 3 simple ways to being the brilliant star you are meant to be in your business:

1 :: Listen to your body
Your body knows everything about you, what you are capable of creating and even what other people need from you. So when looking to be the brightest star you could ever be in your business, ask your body questions like:

“Body, who can I call today that I can contribute the most to?”
“Body, what can I do different today to create more in my business right away?”
“Body, what do you want me to know about me that I am not acknowledging?”

Any dis-ease, illness or potential problem with your body is a sign that your body has been talking and you have not listened. Ask more questions. The first thing that pops is what your body wants you to know.

2 :: Do that thing you think is wrong
Being the brightest star you are meant to be does not mean you can ever reproduce what someone else has created. Your light is different, it’s unique and that’s why it is required in the world. But often, being you, being different feels like the “wrong” thing you do. I mean, if it was the right thing, wouldn’t everyone do it? WRONG!!! No one can do what you do the way you do it so doing what feels like you, even if it feels wrong because it’s so different than what everyone else is doing.

I am French and I like to make people laugh so I often include jokes and funny faces or funny ways of saying things (with my Frenglish) in my business videos. It’s not necessarily the “right” thing to say but when clients choose to work with me they are aware there will be laughter, I don’t take their stories of limitations seriously and my accent is strange. It makes them want to know me even more.

So what if what you think is wrong about you is actually what is right about you?

3 :: Know that you know
I often see people hesitating when they are talking about themselves or their business. I do not mean hesitating in finding their words, no, because they have rehearsed enough, I mean hesitating in choosing what to do, what to say, what to wear, who to talk to, what to put on social media, etc....

The truth is, you know everything there is to know. How many times did someone asked you a question and you knew the answer even though you never “studied it”. Everything that pertains to your business and the services you provide, you know about it. Therefore, everything that pertains to the people who require and are ready to receive your business and your services, you know about it. If you stopped second guessing yourself, you will see how true this is.

Doubt is the most paralyzing thought. I don't even try to get away from it anymore. Instead, I ask: "What do I know about this that I am pretending I don’t know?" I can always go back to doubt 10 seconds later

The world needs the light of the star you bring. Don’t rob us from it. Use these three tools and let us all see it shine!

The 5 Hidden Things that Separate Dreamers from Doers

THE 5 HIDDEN THINGS THAT
SEPARATE DREAMERS FROM DOERS

5 Hidden Things that Separate Dreamers from Doers

5 Hidden Things that Separate Dreamers from Doers

Article by Nikka Karli Salifu

Magazine: Issue #29

Have you ever defined yourself as a dreamer? Maybe you love using the hashtag #dreamchaser in conjunction with things like #bosslady and #goaldigger? Perhaps you’ve secretly started to wonder why you can’t seem to create the success in your business and life that you oh-so-desperately desire.
I get it. Really, I do. Up until recently, I was living in the same dreamland. I was living the life of a Dreamer rather than a Doer. And you might be, too.

Want to know if you need to overhaul your mindset (and your hashtag game)? Read on for 5 shifts that just might change your life…

1 :: Dreamers spend their time dreaming. Doers spend their time doing.
Dreaming is awesome, but if you ever want to turn your dreams into reality you’re going to need to start taking action. Keeping your head in the clouds means your dreams have no roots, no foundation… Which means no progress.

Action begets more action. And action is what it takes to go from leaving a legacy of “she was such a dreamer” to “she helped change the world”. Which legacy do you want to be known for? And what are you willing to do about it? (Like, right now.)

2 :: Dreamers are always “waiting”. Doers are always moving.
If you spend your life in a holding pattern, you will never get anywhere. Your dreams will turn to dust and wither away within your soul as unrealized flights of fancy.

There is no “great moment” that needs to happen before you can act. Neither is there some magical being of light coming to tell you to that now is the time to move forward.

Hire coaches, work with healers, do your spiritual work. But, don’t wait for someone else to make your dreams happen. They are YOUR DREAMS and you alone can create the momentum necessary to bring them to fruition.

3 :: Dreamers take 1 step forward and 3 steps backward. Doers consistently move forward.
Dreamers like to dip their toes in the water. They like to see if something might work out. They like to “try”.

Doers get things done. Doers make a decision and commit to its outcome (whether or not it is the outcome they expected). The difference here is consistency. When you “try” something out and then stop (guilty, party of 1 over here!), you are actually taking your progress and tearing it to shreds. Any traction you’ve gained? You lose it (and then some) when you give up and start backpedaling into your doubts and fear of success.

Doers go all in. What about you? Ask yourself when you last decided on a course of action in your life and business and saw it all the way through. Go ahead. We’ll wait… NOT!!!! Because Doers don’t waste their time waiting! (You might need to go back and re-read #2 again if you really thought we were going to wait. Just sayin’…)

4 :: Dreamers think they need perfection. Doers live in the space of imperfect action.
Oh, the sticky mire of perfectionism. Ever been there? This is one of the most crippling beliefs for anyone who has big dreams. The need to have everything be perfect before taking action is just another tricky form of Resistance (need a review on Resistance? Head over here and soak up some wicked knowledge).

If you always need things to be perfect before you act, you will be waiting forever.
Can your dreams wait forever? Didn’t think so.

5 :: Dreamers allow themselves to be sidelined by failure. Doers understand that failure is a necessary for success.
Ah… Failure. It has taken out many a would-be visionary and relegated them to annals of mediocrity time and time again.

If you want to be different- if you ever want to become extraordinary- you must accept failure. Embrace failure. Seek out failure. Because failure means you are taking action. It means you are being consistent and going all in on your dreams. It means that you are truly alive.

You must not stay hidden in the shadows of life for fear of what will happen when you step into the light. For fear of someone seeing you for who you truly are.
Remember, failure does not mean you have failed forever. Unless you succumb to that instance of failure. Unless you refuse to get back up again.

The finest visionaries, minds, and artists have seen more failure than most people could ever imagine. And, they asked for it. They craved it. Because they knew it meant that they were putting themselves out there, in all their glory and imperfection. They knew that massive amounts of failure are required to reach greatness. And they wanted to be great more than they feared temporary failures.

So, you must ask yourself which you fear most. Failure? Or dying with your dreams unrealized inside of you? If you answered the latter, it is time for you to become something you may have never been before. Something scary. Vulnerable. Awe-inspiring.

It is time, Love, for you to become a Doer.

Zodiac: A Sense of Understanding and Empowerment

ZODIAC: A SENSE OF UNDERSTANDING AND EMPOWERMENT

Zodiac: A Sense of Understanding and Empowerment

Zodiac: A Sense of Understanding and Empowerment

There it is. Right there in the newspaper or your favorite magazine. And even if they never seem to come true or be accurate… you read it…

YOUR HOROSCOPE ::
So why do you read them again and again, even when they don’t seem to pertain to your life? Because when they do, they’re eerily right on. Also, they are, no denying it, fun. Wanna know the trick to gleaning more from them? Come close… closer… *author whispers for only the reader to hear:*

Read the horoscope for your sun AND rising signs!

Sun is the astrological sign under which we are born. Reading the horoscope for it gives us an idea how we follow our life’s map. Sun is, after all, our soul plan and inner self. The Rising sign, though, - otherwise known as Ascendent, the sign rising in the East when we were born - gives us perhaps a better interpretation of trends, obstacles and possibilities ahead. It’s our outward self, the one that reacts with the world.

So if the horoscope in the newspaper says, “The [ full moon, mercury retrograde, solar eclipse, mars is entering your ___ house ]” and you’re only reading the sun sign horoscope, you’re getting a fuzzy snapshot of what’s going on with you.  It’s no fault of the astrologer and their skills but the limitations inherent in  the “mass-crafted” horoscope - they simply aren’t written for each of us personally but for ALL as if 1 :: everyone is born at 0 degrees into their sun sign and 2 :: our sun and rising signs are the same sign. It’s called a Solar Chart.

IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY ::
1| Get a personal chart cast at astro.com. It’s free. All you have to do is input your date, place and time of birth as recorded by Vital Records
2| Find your rising (or ASC or Ascendent)

Now start reading the horoscopes for your rising sign ALONG WITH your sun sign’s horoscope. Blend the two horoscopes together. Use the rising sign one to get a sense of timing and the more short-term movement. The sun’s for the big picture and for pursuing your loftier goals.

The best astrology gives us a sense of understanding and empowerment. When it resonates, we are better equipped to see possibilities where we didn’t before as well as the obstacles the lie ahead. Miss out on that, you maybe miss out on having another tool in the arsenal of preparation and self-awareness. Personalize the mass-crafted horoscopes and maybe get a little more out of that out of them.

Chance favors the prepared mind.

Tres Branifique! Building a Brand Heritage

TRES BRANIFIQUE! BUILDING A BRAND HERITAGE

Tres Branifique! Building a Brand Heritage

Tres Branifique! Building a Brand Heritage

Branding has almost become colloquial these days, yet I bet that when you think about branding, the first thing that comes to mind is some type of product or business. Yet when it comes to branding, the scope extends far beyond products or services. Just about anything can be a brand these days. Let’s take cities for instance, and, for the sake of this article, let’s take Paris!

Steeped in a history rich with art and design, The Paris Brand has been developing for centuries. Its gorgeous architecture, pristine parks, extraordinary cuisine, and exquisite fashion all contribute to a global brand image of one of the world’s most beautiful cities.

Even before stepping foot in Paris, years of browsing through fashion magazines and watching old movies helped me conjure up images of romance, beauty, and sensual delights.

Fall is an incredibly wonderful time to visit Paris.  Here are some reasons why the brand heritage is alive and well:

Savor the Experience
For my husband, Paris is all about its history; the crypts of the Cluny Museum, the underground maize and macabre past of the city’s sewers, the audacity of Napoleon; endless hours spent in L’Ecole de Militaire and Musee D’L’Armee.

For me, Paris is taking a walk in the Jardin du Luxembourg, eating a croissant on the I’sle St       Louis a Sunday morning, having afternoon tea at Marriage Freres, enjoying a chocolate chaud at Angelina, or riding the number 6 metro line just to get that first glimpse of the Eiffel Tower as the train speeds along, running outside, as it nears the Bir-Hakim stop.

Before You Go
I often find the planning stages of a trip almost as fun as the trip itself.  Maybe it is because I immerse myself in the process.  This includes reading books that take place in the country I am about to visit, watching movies that were filmed in that city and creating a playlist of related tunes on my iPhone.

Here are some recommendations to enhance the planning portion of your trip to Paris:

Book List|
The Piano Shop on the Left Bank
    The Book of Lost Fragrances
    Hidden in Paris
It’s Not Love, It’s Just Paris

Once You Arrive
I recommend that you start your site seeing or exploring immediately. DO NOT TAKE A NAP. Seriously, this is Paris!
One of the best ways to see Paris than is on foot.  Here are USA Today’s best walking tour recommendations:

Self-Guided|
Those with an independent streak and no patience for groups can run their own walking tours with directions that are either printed on paper or downloaded to an MP3 player. An example of the former are the free tours offered by Paris Walking Tours. Depending on what you choose, you can visit such favorites as the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Tromphe and the Champs-Elysees. The tours are quite basic, explaining directions and the names of what you are seeing but giving no historical background. Travel guru Rick Steves adds humor and explanations to his free MP3 audio tours, which include a historic Paris walk and specific tours for the Louvre and Musee D’Orsay.

Free|
If you prefer being guided by a human being but don't have a lot of money, then free guided walking tours are for you. These trips are characterized by enthusiastic, native Parisian volunteers and very large crowds who come and go throughout the narration. One example is Discover Walks, whose walks take you to several Paris landmarks, specific areas such as the Latin Quarter or to specific sights like Notre Dame. Walks typically occur two or three times a day, rain or shine, and require no reservations. Simply show up at the appointed place and time, and look for the pink outfits. Being volunteers, the guides appreciate tips at the end of the walk, though they are not required.

Commercial|
Companies that run commercial walking tours may offer smaller groups, greater selection, gift certificates and souvenirs. Reservations may be required, though some also allow you to just show up. As an example, Classic Walks covers such broad topics as Classic Paris, the French Revolution and World War II, or more specific areas such as Montmartre. If you want the intimacy of a walking tour, with the speed of a vehicle, the company also offers tours on Segways and bicycles. These types of trip cover more ground and enable you to reach widely spaced sights in shorter times.

Private|
Private tours cost the most money but allow you to focus on only the topics that interest you. You can take pre-planned itineraries, but take detours and skip sights you find boring. Or you can have the guide plan an excursion for you from scratch. Advanced reservations are necessary. An example is Context Paris Tours, which is endorsed by such travel luminaries as Fodor's, Frommer's, National Geographic and Insight Guides. They call their guides docents because they have advanced degrees in such subjects as art history, cuisine or archaeology, and feature a large educational component in their tours. Their planned itineraries are divided into themes like architecture or gastronomy and offer unusual views such as the belly of Paris and Modernist buildings.

Taking the Metro or the Bateaubus in season are other great ways to take in the city.

What to See
You can spend weeks, months even years getting to know The City of Light, but if your time is limited, you can still get a great feeling for this very special place in a short period of time. Here is your highlight list.  If you are a museum person, browse the list for the ones that best suit your taste, if your someone who prefers being outside and mingling with the locals, focus on the site list and the neighborhood list.

    Eiffel Tower
    Notre Dame
    St. Chapelle
    Sacre Coeur
    Montmartre
The Paris Opera (see if you can get a tour)!

Astral Business Tools, a Gift for the Taking

ASTRAL BUSINESS TOOLS, A GIFT FOR THE TAKING

Astral Business Tools

Astral Business Tools

Magazine: Issue #29

I have been on a spiritual journey for many years since becoming an entrepreneur. One statement that I’ve found to be true is “Religion is for those who believe in hell, spirituality is for those who have already been through hell”. We all understand in the beginning process of building a business or brand (or at least we think that we do), those moments when planning and executing consumes us with an overwhelming amount of decisions. We as business owners make final decisions based on a plethora ideals that originate from experience, coaching, facts, science, and advice. As we use our arsenal of tools for decision making, we sometimes forget how many other tools are available to us that are gifts free for the taking.

Astral events including moon phases may be something to pay attention to when making decisions especially as an entrepreneur. Something so simple and yet so powerful, the moon has the ability to cause oceans to rise and lower. With that said, the full moon can also affect our decision making just ask Police, doctors, nurses or anyone that works in an emergency room during a full moon. As entrepreneurs we have an extra tool to use if we watch these astral events and use them to our benefit.

There are a couple of astral events that I utilize on a regular basis. At this point in our lives we are all aware of manifestation, yes it works! But we can also manifest and bring it to a higher momentum by following the moon’s phases. The moon phases include new, waxing, full and waning.

1| Plan large projects during a new moon.
2| Manifest events that you want to happen or add to your business during a waxing moon.
3| Celebrate all positive efforts that have be created in your business during the full moon.
4| Manifest events that you want to remove form your business during the waning moon.

Never discount any new ideas to your decision making efforts. By realizing there are forces so much older and larger than ourselves we can achieve better results as entrepreneurs from a higher spiritual perspective.

Many people speak of Mercury retrograde with despair. Although this is a time of a slowdown and caution we should not worry about not making decisions during this event that occurs four times a year. We should most likely make precise decisions, checking every detail prior to committing to the final one.

1| Accept that Mercury retrograde is a time to slow down, do not stop making decisions make conscious ones.
2| Realize that this is also a good time to slow down yourself and review all events in your business. Double check each event in detail.
3| Do not fear this event make it work for your needs.

Astral events are gifts and they are free, just understand how to utilize and embrace them, these are tools that can bring you to a higher level of your business.
