Why You Should Use Organic Skin Care Products

WHY YOU SHOULD USE ORGANIC SKIN CARE PRODUCTS

Magazine: Issue #12

Traditional skincare and cosmetic products contain chemicals.

The average woman applies more than 200 chemicals to her skin in one day and 60% of these chemicals are further absorbed into her bloodstream!

These chemicals are often harmful and can cause skin reactions, irritation, allergies, headaches, and other undesirable conditions. These are main reasons that organic skincare is one of the fastest growing areas of the beauty industry. Organic, natural ingredients are also more effective than the synthetic and petroleum derived products that can be found in traditional skincare.

These ingredients work with your skin to enhance its own regenerative and healing properties and have more nutritional benefits, due to the fact that the ingredients are more potent and effective. This has the added benefit of you using less of the product in order to get the same benefit!

Because the ingredients are farmed organically, there are no chemicals or pesticides used so it is much better for the environment and the body. Organic products are grown to strict guidelines and must meet the standards set by organic certifying bodies.

When you move from a non-organic range to a certified organic one your skin will need to assimilate and process any remaining chemicals remaining from your old skincare. Your body will naturally detoxify itself by getting rid of these toxins. Drink plenty of water and continue to cleanse, tone and moisturize your face regularly. It may take up to a month for your skin to fully detoxify from your old skincare.

Chemicals to Avoid

In traditional skincare, there are many ingredients that can be harmful to your health. Some of the worst are listed below:

Formaldehyde

Found in nail polish as well as some other cosmetics. It is a preservative and can cause reactions in the skin.

Imidazolidinyl Urea

A preservative and can also cause skin reactions.

Fragrances

These fragrances are often synthetic and are found in many cosmetics and skin products. These are not required to be listed on the ingredients label so it is worthwhile seeking out products that use natural fragrances or essential oils.

Methyl Paraben

A widely used preservative and it can cause skin irritations.

Isopropyl Alcohol

A petroleum-based anti-bacterial agent.

Methylisothiazoline

A preservative that has been shown to cause irritation and allergic reactions.

Paraffin

Used in creams, hair removal products, eyebrow pencils, as well as other cosmetics. Paraffin is made from petroleum or coal.

Propylene Glycol

A moisture-carrying agent and it is traditionally derived from petroleum.

Sodium Lauryl Sulphate

A detergent that can have a drying effect on the skin and cause irritation.

If you’re like most people, then you love amazing food! If you’re like some people then you love cooking good food. If you’re like a small amount of people, you have the unique skill and flair to cook really well -- enough for your friends and family to say things like, “Girl, you should sell these/this!” Perhaps you should be selling your famous grandmother’s cake recipe. You might be able to make a little extra money and even turn it into something more, but is it really worth it?

Here are a few things to consider before you take the Food Business plunge:

#1 Costs

Is it going to be profitable! How do you allocate for all the costs that go into making/baking/cooking/cleaning, etc.?

#2 Is it unique?

People are searching for something different and delicious!

#3 Is it something people want?

Your friends and family are one thing - bias. Test it out gently with total strangers!

#4 What’s the story?

Facts tell, stories sell! People connect with products because of the amazing stories behind them.

#5 Labor Intensive

Food prep takes a lot of time on your feet and is “back breaking” work. Consider the change of pace from what you’re currently doing.

#6 Cottage Laws

Is it best to use these laws as a first step?

Amazing food-preneuer opportunities could add to your household, or allow you to leave your full-time job. There’s always room for something new! Local Craft Food Products are in demand as the shift to eating local is encouraged from every platform. It encourages stimulation in local economy and introduces community building. If you have a Craft Food Product that you’d like to develop or scale up, there’s no better time than now!

It might be your time to get in the kitchen and get cooking!

What is a Health Coach?

WHAT IS A HEALTH COACH?

What is a Health Coach?

What is a Health Coach?

Article by Jo Ann Bellistri

Magazine: Issue #12

A health coach serves as the vehicle that drives a person to the health destination they desire. The person has to set their mind and commit to that destination, while the health coach chooses the map, plots the route and navigates the trip, always ensuring a safe ride.

The journey can take many months or years, and along the way bumps in the road and detours are handled by the travelers together. The traveling is where the magic happens and the desired destination turns out to be minor compared to the experience of the journey itself.

Health coaches are different from nutritionists, therapists and doctors. Nutritionists will give their clients lists of foods they should and should not eat. Therapists do not provide an end in sight, and there’s no linking of food and mood. Most doctors do not work on the root cause of a symptom; instead they prescribe a medication to treat the symptom. Health coaches begin a process of discovery by using a positive and practical approach. They work with their clients and are present, engaged and gentle while they guide them toward uncovering the root of the problem

The traditional approach to treatment of chronic disease is to diagnose and prescribe. Unfortunately, most medical doctors do not see the connection between food and disease. A health coach sees that connection and also the other factors that are contributing to poor health. Stress, lack of exercise, bad relationships and lifestyle habits are discussed and considered. A health coach touches on many different areas of a client’s life and empowers that person to identify the unhealthy behaviors that need to be changed. There is cooperative communication between health coaches and their clients. Health coaches realize that every person they work with is different and needs to experience a journey that is set up only for them

Overcome Your Fears In 5 Minutes

Overcome Your Fears

Overcome Your Fears

OVERCOME YOUR FEARS IN 5 MINUTES

Article By Ling Wong

We all have fears. It's part of being human. But we don't have to be controlled by our fears.

We can be aware of them, acknowledge them, and release them. It's not a one-time magic pill kind of thing. Releasing and taming your fears takes willingness, awareness, and stick-to-it-ness.

Our deeply rooted fears don't even come up as "scary" kind of feeling. They just hold us back or make us take on self-sabotaging behaviors such as procrastination, feeling unworthy (e.g. you discount and undercharge), playing small etc. Building a business is by far the best way to see these fears in their "glory" - so much $hit reveals itself when YOU are on the line.

When you know how to identify your fears, they no long have a grip on you. When you become more aware, you cannot do things that don't serve you.

Here is a process that will take you 5 minutes, it will help you see your fear from a different perspective. You will be able to address it and move onto doing what you need to do without having one foot on the gas and one foot on the break:

1. Visualize It

Visualize your fear in your body - Where is it? What color is it? What shape is it? What is the texture? Is it big or small? Does it make a sound? Does it move?

2. Objectify It

See if you can take it out of your body and hold it in your hands. Examine it, see if it shows you anything.

3. Name It

Now look at this fear - either outside or inside of your body, and say 3 times (aloud or in your head): "This is just my fear of rejection." Naming it cultivates the awareness what your feelings and emotions are being triggered by.

4. Frame It

With this fear as an object that is separate from your being, look at it again and declare 3 times: "I am NOT my fear." Framing your fear allows you to deal with it from an objective perspective.

5. Have a Chat With It

Then ask the fear: "What do you want to tell me?" Listen. Then ask: "What do you want me to do, and why?" The fear may tell you to do things that it *thinks* will protect you from harm (or at least, something that worked in the past but no longer does) yet does not serve you or what you want to achieve. Thank your fear, tell it that it's been heard and you appreciate the concern. But you are a "big boy" now (a lot of our fears came from our childhood) and you are going to go ahead and take the action.

6. Tame It

Repeat your empowering mantra* 3 times, aloud or in your head.
* You are going to come up with an empowering mantra that works for you. You can have multiple mantras based on the different fears you experience.

Fuel Your Business With These 4 Strategies

Fuel Your Business

FUEL YOUR BUSINESS WITH THESE 4 STRATEGIES

Article by Kimberly Manning

Fire is a change agent. It can turn ordinary metal ores into gorgeous art, transform water into mist, or make dust from a tree. We can find opportunities to grow our business when we learn to harness the energy cycle of fire.

Many entrepreneurs tend to focus on the flame, the big stuff that happens in business. These are the catalysts that can vault you and your biz to new levels. Experiencing this type of energy in your business is awesome. Your beautiful new website has just gone live.  A publisher calls. Your product is being profiled in Oprah. It’s invigorating, affirming, and … infrequent.

When we fixate on the blaze, we can miss opportunities that exist in the entire cycle of fire which can support our business for the long haul. While we strive for more fiery opportunities in our business, the reality is that they’re only one part of the cycle of fire. Look to the other aspects of this energy that exist within your business. You’ll find new fuel for your business as you harness The Cycle of Fire.

Sparks...

They birth flames. Can you strike out with a new product or service, share a blog article that pushes the edge in your industry, or do some brand tweaking to better align you with your biz? These are actions you create that can set your business on fire.

Glowing embers...

A constant source of heat in your business. Look at where you’ve got traction in your business. That signature program that consistently delivers results for your clients. The conversations you and your tribe community are engaged around. The leveraged online program that sells while you’re sleeping. These keep the lights – and the heat – on in your business. Find what’s glowing and keep it stoked.

Fire...

A source of heat, light and transformation. Spectacular, awe-inspiring, light-up-the-sky kind of opportunities are the flaming fire in your business. This is the segment of the Cycle that puts you on the proverbial map, and can propel you and your business skyward. Like successful product launches, amazing PR opps and hitting a best-seller list. Make a bonfire. Bring out the s’mores and champagne.

Ashes...

The by-product of transformation. We may think of ashes as the waste from fire, but they’re really the end of one cycle and the beginning of another. There’s gold in that dust. Be like an archeologist and examine the ashes for new life in your business. A successful product or service offering that has run its course can become a free offer or bonus that adds value to your clients while they engage in other work that you offer.

It’s OK to be drawn to the fiery aspects in your business, just don’t forget the riches within the other expressions of fire. Learn to harness all of the manifestations of fire energy in your business to fuel your success. Your business looks good aglow.

Can you tell us a little about your business and how you got started as an entrepreneur?

I've been an entrepreneur ever since I can remember!  Funny story:  When I was about 10 years old, I decided to make some extra money by starting a summer business.  I used my allowance money to buy ice cream bars in bulk from Costco and sold them to all the neighborhood kids out of the freezer in our garage.  I even created a company logo, "the Ice Dream Co.", and drew it on brown paper bags to package the popsicles so the kids would remember me and come back the next day.  I almost put the neighborhood ice cream truck out of business that summer!  Nothing much has changed really, I just want to create things, package ideas, and sell them--AND help people live their dreams!

To me, business is really a platform for sharing my unique gifts, creativity, and making a difference in the world.  It's definitely a labor of love that takes dedication and courage and the right combination of effort, intention, and energy, but I think ultimately having your own business is the best way to have a sustainable income that is congruent with the energy and love you're putting out in the world.

Right now, my finger is on the pulse of all things feminine and the goddess traditions that have been experiencing a huge revival.  I just LOVE the goddess and I've been diving in really deep with her in my personal spiritual practice.  I just got back from my first trip to India earlier this year with huge insights about a new direction for my business and realizing my dreams of creating bad ass super hero programs for women, both in-person workshops and retreats, and online transformational journeys.  My vision is guiding women in getting real with themselves and their gifts, finding a spiritual connection that nourishes and inspires them, learning the art of exquisite self-care and true self-love -- deep inner and outer alchemy and next-level spiritual badassery!

Can you tell us about Activate Austin?

I have been doing energy and healing work for about 15 years now, and the one thing I've noticed from being in the industry is that the branding and design tends to be so cheesy, dated, and new-agey.  When my partner and I moved from Seattle to Austin, Texas in 2012, I wanted to make a sexy, fun, colorful, and bright brand for our local biz that would attract a creative, spiritual, and savvy clientele who are ready for deeper awakening and transformation in their lives.

With Activate Austin, we're offering powerful healing services and classes that help people activate and awaken their inner power, clarity, and creativity.  Everything we do is based on  a 3000-year lineage of spiritual teachings that have been passed down from person to person. We teach people various techniques of meditation and give them a spiritual tool box for self-knowledge that draws on ancient teachings from the great mystery traditions on earth--everything from Kabbalah, Wicca, and Egyptian magic, to Tibetan Buddhism and Native American shamanism.

In essence, it's like Hogwart's School of Witchcraft and Wizardry or the University for the Soul.  I'm not saying that it's the only path or the best path out there, but in my years of searching for the real-deal, it's been the most legit non-new agey spiritual training I've come across.  Not to say it's not really really out there, but the esoteric shit, and the search for the truth, really resonates with me, and I know people are looking for the real thing.  So I've just had to own it.

At the moment, we're currently offering our live classes and one-on-one sessions on a local level in Austin, Texas, but we plan to expand and travel to other areas in the South as well as offering other types of meditation and wellness programs online.

What is your current core program and can you tell me about it?

Because of the nature of energy work and transference, the core of what I do is in person. Though I am in the process of developing some online programs and currently in school to integrate nutrition and coaching into my offerings, the main service I offer is called the Life Activation, and it's the root of everything else I'll be offering.

The Life Activation is just a fancy name for this healing session that has been done for thousands of years to awaken people's inherent potential.  In Ancient Egypt it was used to initiate pharoahs, priests, and priestesses, but in our modern times, it's all about helping people be the superheroes they were born to be, so that we can all use our unique superpowers to make much needed change in the world.

I have seen so many of my clients come into realizing they can do or be anything they want, just from this session.  I've seen women have the confidence to finally start the businesses they've dreamed of having, sometimes within a really short time!  It's a really amazing thing, and I think everyone should know about it.

I noticed that you're a "Jill of all trades". How do you make all of your skills/certifications/talents work cohesively with your brand?

I'm currently re-visioning my personal brand at the moment, weaving together my years of spiritual training, love of art, graphic design, and branding, passion for personal style and fashion, and years of being a health and wellness ninja.  To be honest, seeing how Angel ties in her diverse skills into the brand that is Holistic Fashionista has been a true inspiration for me in the last few weeks, because I'm starting to really see how all of it can really work together, the fashion, the wellness, the branding and design aspects can all work together to create value.

It's definitely been a challenge to find the cohesion, because I do have so many passions. At one point, I was co-running 4 different businesses simultaneously, including a graphic design firm, a healing and meditation center, a raw food and superfood education business, and a multi-media event production company!  I was 100% raw vegan at that time.  I had so much energy and I didn't really need much sleep, so I think that helped a lot.  It was a good experience, but I'm relieved that now I can package most of those things that I really enjoy into a more condensed form, and it's definitely a work in progress.

The bottom line for me is that I'm starting to really OWN that I can do many different things. I've never really been the type to care what anyone thinks, but putting on so many different hats seems a little self-inflating perhaps?  It's all about owning it, owning my witchyness, my personal style.  I can say I'm a designer, a priestess, an entrepreneur.  I believe that I am good at what I do.  I enjoy what I'm good at.  And it's all a result of my spiritual path, taking care of my self on all levels, and listening to my intuition and inspiration.
