CREATING A HIGHER CONSCIOUSNESS THROUGH AYURVEDA AND SHAMANISM
Article by Angela J Glaz
Both Ayurveda and Shamanism are ancient practices and healing modalities that we could talk about for years. However, for the sake of this article, we will discuss a few of their foundational concepts, how and where they overlap, and how we can use both, side by side, in our everyday life to:
Improve our physical well-being
Improve our mental well-being
Improve our spiritual well-being
Better understand ourselves and the world around us
Find the answers to our questions
Deeply heal for the highest good of all
What is Ayurveda?
Ayurvedic literature is based on the Sankhya philosophy, which tells us that every human being is a creation of the cosmos—pure consciousness—in the form of male energy, called purusha, and female energy, prakriti. Purusha is passive awareness; prakriti is active consciousness. Purusha does not take part in creation; prakriti is the divine creative will. Prakriti creates all forms in the universe while purusha witnesses that creation.
Simply put, Ayurveda is a consciousness-based system of healing. Consciousness is the unbound essence underlying the perpetual renewal of our body and mind. It is the underlying realm that gives rise to our thoughts, feelings, perceptions, and our interpretations of experience. Ultimately, our consciousness has the power to help us either feel good or bad.
According to Ayurveda, the field of pure consciousness expresses itself through the elements of nature: space, air, fire, water, and earth. The five elements reside within all of us and are ultimately responsible for every function in our body and mind as well as the diversity we see in nature and ourselves.
What is Shamanism?
Shamanism is a spiritual practice that works with the world of energy and spirits. It is a deep understanding of Oneness and Unity in all.
The word shaman originates from the Siberian Tungus tribe, but essentially shamanism is a universal spiritual wisdom inherent in all indigenous tribes. All of our ancestor’s spiritual practices are rooted in nature, therefore; shamanism strengthens the innate connection to nature and the spirit world. Shamanism works at the soul level and works to heal energetic soul intrusions, energetic cords, psychic soul wounds, chakra imbalances and other energetic soul patterns that do not benefit a person’s highest good.
Shamanism is a practice that allows practitioners to shift to an altered state of consciousness in order to perceive and interact with the spirit world or ascended masters. The goal of this altered state of consciousness is to ask these spirits or ascended masters for assistance in healing or solving physical world problems.
How Shamanism and Ayurveda work together to help us live a healthier and more fulfilled life?
Ayurveda and Shamanism are both healing modalities and practices that focus on developing the consciousness and are rooted in nature.
Ayurveda and it’s sister science, yoga, provide our body and mind with the tools we need to stay healthy and balanced so that we can reach higher levels of consciousness. We can think of our body and mind as the shell that holds our soul and in order for us to find optimal balance and joy in life we need to protect our soul. We can protect our soul by keeping our shell in a good condition. We can best care for and maintain our shell by understanding the qualities of the elements and how they affect our body and mind.
With the help of shamanic work we can help heal our soul by having the additional guidance from our ascended masters to help us solve our life’s problems (relationship problems, traumatic events, chronic diseases). Only if we solve our problems and strive for growth, can we reach higher levels of consciousness. Therefore, Shamanism is another helping hand that takes us from duality to unity.
Together, both Ayurveda and Shamanism are a powerful unit for spiritual growth. Ayurveda helps us to keep our body and mind healthy for this venture and Shamanism helps us with our life’s problems so that we can be present and conscious beings so that we can be our best selves for the highest good of all.
