Summer Must Have: Bronde Hair Color

Summer Must Have: Bronde Hair Color

We all know that everyone likes to have their luscious locks a little lighter for the summer. However, the current trend is actually “Bronde.” What is Bronde, you ask? It’s the amazing middle ground in between blonde and brown. Why not try a subtle combo like Bronde to enhance your natural beauty?

Summer should be Care Free and when it comes to the hair world, there is a perfect solution for the Ultimate Traveler. Meet the Ombre’! From subtle to drastic, this versatile look allows you to have less maintenance this season. The best part about it is that it looks great on long or short hair and in every hue.

Feeling on fire this season? Why not join the copper red family? Bust out those summer shades – orange hues are definitely here to stay. The perfect combination of reds and copper tones will brighten your look all around.

Summer dresses and bright colors are great… but why not add pastels to your look too? A simple hairstyle can be switched instantly with some temporary changes. Have your Stylist strategically bayalyage your favorite hue! From rose gold to strawberry, this range of color is in high demand this season. They allow you to tap into warm tones without the crazy fade of red. This is definitely my personal favorite for the season.

Time to go behind the scenes at the Kim Vo Salon in Beverly Hills

Summer hairstyles should be a direct reflection of the laidback vibe that summer gives us all. With the right cut, a tousled look will have you at ease from day well into the evening. If your hair has a natural wave, luck is on your side. Spray in some sea salt spray or curling cream and let your hair air-dry. At night, for a more drastic look, simply wrap your beachy waves around a curling iron, taking one-inch sections at a time. Don’t forget to use your favorite hair spray and brush out your curls slightly after your hair has cooled down.

Advice from Beverly Hills Stylist Ramsay Mclean

“The current trend this summer is effortless. Keeping the hair above the shoulders with long layers and always having some texture or bounce to the hair. A messy fishtail braid is an easy way to keep your look on trend and also keeping it off the face. I typically choose a side to angel it. I also create many up do styles by making looser areas and wrapping it up in a bun.”

The look created for me that is pictured below, was collaborated by Celebrity stylist Kim Vo, Stylist Ramsay Mclean, and Makeup Artist Mara Rouse. Photos were taken by Cory Graves. The look given to me is very versatile and can look great smooth and straight or with curls and a beachy texture. It’s lightweight for summer with long layers and facial framing to accent the color.

Advice to all you Fashionistas out there from the Kim Vo Salon

“Find a look that is appropriate for you. Factors include lifestyle, skin tone, face shape, age and the amount of effort that you want to put into your appearance. Find a look that you can make subtle changes to so you don’t get bored.”

Change Your Reality With the World's Most Powerful 2 Words

CHANGE YOUR REALITY WITH THE WORLD’S MOST
POWERFUL 2 WORDS

Change Your Reality

Change Your Reality

Article by Priscilla Wainwright

Magazine: Issue #17

All human life operates according to these 2 words. They control your brain and thought, both conscious and unconscious, whether you like it or not! So, these 2 words control you. They can MAKE or BREAK you: soar you to the heights or plunge you to the depths.

In the late 1800’s, the philosopher Vaihinger founded a life philosophy on these 2 words. They became the centerpiece of psychiatrist Alfred Adler’s system of Individual Psychology. Henry Ford got it right in his famous quote, “Whether you think you can, or think you can’t, you’re right.”

You’ve waited long enough! Here they are: 'AS IF'. Our brains are wired according to this principle, “We always act as if what we believe is true.” Psychologist Harold Mosak said, “Life’s all fiction. Which fiction do you wish to believe?”

He’s right, you know. We all have belief systems that develop early in life that serve as filters through which we process and interpret everything we experience. Therefore, we never experience “reality” as it actually is. It becomes for us what we subconsciously make it out to be. We’re not consciously aware that we’re doing this, so we think and act that what we perceive our experience to be is the actual reality, the real truth.

Now, here’s the kicker: Whatever we have learned, we can unlearn!

You want a new reality? Change your beliefs! Doing so will give you more control over your life. You will consciously and subconsciously act in new ways that will create a new “reality” and give you different results.

Admittedly, this is easier said than done, but it is eminently doable. You start by creating new positive power statements. Write them out. Then live each moment inside those statements. Start acting “AS IF” they are true. Then you will come to believe them.

Gain Momentum in Your Business

Gain Momentum in Your Business

Ever feel unmotivated like you need a break from everything? I know exactly how you feel my friend. Sometimes, you find yourself buried under a pile of work with little to no time to work on what's most important.

That's why I wanted to share with you "Three Ways to Help you Gain Momentum in Your Biz" right now.

1| Create your own self-care space

This is the number one thing you need to do right away to get your mojo back. Find time in your schedule to add self-care time.

Ask yourself: What do I want to do during my ME time? You can meditate, take up yoga, read your favorite book, get a pedicure or even sleep. Whatever you decide just schedule your me time. This is going to keep you inspired and refresh through your day.

2| Organize Organize Organize

One of the main cause of chaos is the lack of organization. I'm guilty myself so I won't pretend to be perfect. I can just share that when I get things organized life is so much easier.

Take 1 hour a week to prepare for the week. Plan out what you need to do in your business and a few action steps on how you will tackle them right away.

A few tools you can use to get yourself organized are Trello, Google Cal or Evernote. Create systems for your business to help you get focused and organized.

A great book that I highly recommend to help you with building systems for your biz is : The E-Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don't Work and What to Do About It by Michael E. Gerber.

3| Know your Why?

Honestly, the best motivation comes from knowing your why. Why do you want to build your biz? Why are you blogging? For everything you do in life there is a reason. If you need motivation think about your reason. In the words of my favorite speakers Les Brown "Your why will be your rod and your staff that carries you through it all"

There you have it friend! Three ways to gain momentum in your "Three Ways to Help you Gain Momentum in Your Biz".

SETTING GOALS...
BECAUSE QUITTING
IS FOR LOSERS

Article by Cinthia Singleton

Magazine: Issue #35

One hard thing about being the CEO of the sole proprietorship All Mine LLC is knowing when to quit. We’re not talking about when to shut off the light and close the door for the day (though that can be a problem too, just not today’s lol) nor selling it off lock, stock and barrel but letting go of what and whom isn’t working any longer.

Clients that drain you, certain processes and skills from earlier stages of your business, or a product line that you don’t enjoy promoting as much as previously.

Phone rings. Email notification goes off. You see it’s Ol’ So and So asking you for X-y-z and suddenly you feel the heartburn. Step back a moment and observe the frustration, weariness, exhaustion, even anger, and ask yourself why this is. Could it be that Ol’ So and So and X-y-z may no longer be serving you as it once did? Maybe so.

You are one good editor. Do you like it? Nope. Haven’t really in years and other types of writing services have been added to your toolbox of tricks, and they’re fun. But old skills can still pay the bills, and even though you swore the last couple of times, “Never more,” there you are putting on the pointe shoes and doing stretches for Le Danse de Drudgery. Or perhaps there’s that one challenging customer you can always count on, along with their entourage of proverbial clowns and monkeys. Customer loyalty is real nice, money too, but why do YOU have to pay so dearly, heart and soul, for a few drachma?

You don’t, and it’s quite ok to let them go. Unlike what society tells us, ‘giving up’ is not a form of failure, but rather part of making thoughtful decisions that help us serve our higher self. It’s simple physics. From the mediocre to toxic, as All Mine LLC grows, it will OUTgrow. None of us know this going in and these things aren’t date stamped like a carton of milk. Sure, there are contractual agreements, but will you want to renew? It’s your job to respond to the natural evolution and know when it’s time to ‘move along.’ Listen. Observe your feelings. Get ready to say no to a few old things along the way.

1 :: Give yourself an end date. Only you need to know this, but pick an actual time and/or date. It’s symbolic, and when uttered and/or written, a term you take seriously. “As of [June 1, next Tuesday, Purim], I hereby dissolve I Can Edit Inc’s business writing entity.”

2 :: Look yourself right in the eyes. “Self,” spoken slowly and clearly, “as much as I have been known as crackerjack editor, it’s a skill that’s run its course. It’s been a great run and I’ve learned a lot, but I’d like to do more [proof-reading, blogging, article writing] so, herewith, I am submitting my letter of resignation to I Can Edit Inc.”

3 :: When the phone rings and it’s that especially [tough, annoying, exasperating, toxic, etc.] client, clear your throat and say with a smile, “Hi. Nice to hear from you but I’m no longer [editing manuals, books, catalogues etc.] BUT I’d be happy to put you in touch with someone who does.” Maybe practice in the mirror or camera video so as to gain confidence before the phone actually rings or email sounds.

Say NO to what makes you feel like you’re in the past (and not in the cuddly nostalgic way lol). Say YES to new possibilities that just might take you where your light shines brighter. Yes, it’s a business and a means to make the bread, but having your own business is also an expression of Self. Finding the balance between Keep At It and Quitting Is for Losers at All Mine LLC is ongoing.

— As long as the roots are not severed, all is well.  And all will be well in the garden.

Professional snowboarder, activist and adventurer Chanelle Sladics speaks to our editor about her career and co-founding her own philanthropic brand Simply Straws.

What sparked the idea of creating a zero waste straw alternative?

My mom was developing arthritis from the 30 yrs she had dedicated to dental hygiene, she didn't want to stop, but her body needed to seek healing. She started looking for alternative ways she could continue to help her patients. The general academy of dentistry recommends straws for basically every beverage besides water to protect your teeth from staining, sensitivity and erosion. When she brought the idea to me, we did some research and realized is was a massively overlooked disposable plastic. 500 million plastic straws are disposed daily in USA alone. As a passionate activist, I knew I wanted to get involved.

Do you see your Simply Straw brand expanding and converting other products into no-waste alternatives in the future?

Absolutely on many levels. I see great value in aligning with brands that are already doing an excellent job and selling our products together. If its reusable and compatible with our straws- its a great potential. We are already selling collaborations like this with ToGoWare utensil sets and Klean Kanteen tumblers. We may invest in designing our own products that fit our Simply Straws, but for now we feel it is best to align with brands we believe and sell our products together.

Being a Co-Founder of Simply Straws, what would you say is the biggest and best thing you bring to the table?

Partnerships. I am a big fan of working together and building community. Together we can build momentum, feed off each other and exponentially grow our impact. I launched our “Straws for Cause” collaborations which connects each colored straw with a different NPO educating or activating against plastic pollution. Basically at minimum our 1% to the planet benefits our brand’s non-profit partners. We do a lot together beyond this, but its our minimum commitment to each other.

Our cause partners are: PINK Keep a Breast Foundation, GREEN Protect our Winters, SMOKE Non-Toxic Revolution, TEAL 5 Gyres, AMBER Plastic Pollution Coalition. We also work closely with 1:1 Movement on their “last straw” campaign.

What is really cool is we wanted to run our business similar to a non-profit- we wanted a direct impact on the problem of disposable straws and we quickly realized what a great fit for a B Corporation we were. We are so proud to be apart of the BCorp community. We really feel using business as a force for good is the solution we need to create a healthy environment for us humans, the planet and our eco system. We all need to be honored for the energy we invest into anything, but are we sharing that energy to invest in the health and happiness for all? Thats my manifestation for the future. It feels so good to be apart of something bigger than ourselves.

Being environmentally conscience clearly holds a place in and out of the work place; What sparked your vision of hosting a zero waste snowboarding event?

I wasn’t raised with the consciousness of where everything comes from and where everything goes. I have so much more to learn, but at the least- the system is broken. The disposable system has made us lazy and disconnected from our true sources. For example, bottled water is everywhere. We started gathering it originally at springs, then at some point tap water, now small disposable plastic water bottles are filled with tap water and transported to us. Thankfully we are starting to shift back, but as a well seasoned traveler- I am boggled at how many plastic bottles and togo cups with straws I see get used for a few minutes and disposed. These plastics take a 1,000 years to break down and we are only using them for minutes!

Slow down and look at the process. Using energy to draw the oil from the earth and using the petroleum to create the plastic that is molded in mass production and shipped wherever- just so you dont need to carry your own reusable around. Its quite disturbing, and I was surprised the governments supported this process when I first realized it. In USA we aren't even required to ask if the customer wants a straw, we just give them one or even two with a cocktail. Look around and you will be amazed at how many straws are getting disposed. Especially once you see the ripples of pollution it is creating in our waterways, eco systems and manufacturing pollution in our airways.

So you continue following the money and realize how much money and lobbying these energy companies invest in our governments to keep us relying on their products. Petroleum even enters into our food chain with chemical pesticides for our GMO plants and even in our pharma products. Its all connected and the sooner we wake up to it, the sooner we find absolute purpose in buying products that serve the greater good of you and the earth. I love how, with smart design, we can live in communities and cities on earth and enjoy the best food, water and vibrations the earth has the offer. The future is bright if we continue to “vote with our purchases”.

Ok- so now I am a bit off topic, but you are getting to know me, my path, my perspective and what is motivating the projects and brands I am creating. As a professional snowboarder for 10 years, I saw a direct opportunity to lead the charge in this department.

I don’t expect soccer to be the first sport to have a zero waste footprint, but it makes perfect sense for action sports to lead the charge. Our sports rely on a healthy environment to thrive. With no snow, we have no events, we have no tour, we have no magic to take us deep into the winter. Kjersti Buaas and I saw this need and opportunity to show our industry how easy it would be to make some big shifts towards zero waste.

We achieved this by:
-digital registration
-serving organic food
-selling reusable kits for spectators to enjoy our beverage garden and festivities
-creating the marketing materials, banners and athlete bibs out of recycled or organic materials
-support local business for our services
-setting us recycling and composting bins by waste bins
and more. Check out Community Cup for more info.

Our intent was to create ripples and lead by example for our industry.

What was the most difficult task to overcome during that process?

Raising capital to properly execute this vision from brands we believed in. In general raising funds is a challenge, but to create a zero waste concept where you dont want money from brands that dont align with the vision and make it a women’s only event- you have really slimmed down your opportunities for funding. It takes a lot to create a sporting event with prize money, film production and an eco festival with concerts. We went big and it really over extended us and our resources, but we are proud we were able to pull it off. We now see opportunities where we could have made it even easier, but that comes with all projects, you get better each time, more fine tuned.

What’s the biggest aspiration you have for your business?

I have 3 businesses, Simply Straws, Community Cup, and PRSNT.  All of them are caused based businesses.

What’s the most rewarding thing about Simply Straws?

Knowing that each straw represents a lifetime product that will replace an exponential amount of waste.  In addition, each straw represents a ripple of education through our Non-Profit partners and the strangers inspired by your Simply Straw.  It is such a beautiful product, anywhere I go in the world, it is always a conversation starter, it always draws attention.

How much of your inventory is purchased through wholesale? What are some businesses that sell your product?

We focus our energy on online sales, we love to have a direct connection with our buyers.  We were honored to be recruited by a whole region of Whole Foods the first day we soft launched our business at green festival in LA.  We have now expanded modestly into retailers that find us.  At some point we plan to take this impact more national, but right now we are taking our time.

What seems to be the most effective way to get the Simply Straws name and message out there?

Whenever people get to touch, feel or see our product- they usually take one home with them. They are stunning handmade products that resonate excellence. The colors are fun and nothing tastes better than glass. We have the highest quality glass and it is incredibly durable and can handle temperatures much better than stainless steel.

What accomplishment are you most proud of?

I am proud of the women I continue to evolve into. I am constantly urning to grow and that growth is reflected in my projects, brands and alignments. I seek happiness daily and build relationships that are meaningful to me. I always aim to create business deals where both parties win.

What has been the most difficult thing with Simply Straws? Would you do anything differently?

Absolutely! It is incredibly challenging to run a product business, especially when you are manufacturing, packaging, shipping, marketing, etc. I would have reached out for a mentor that could guide us on how to streamline our backend, we are continuing to fine tune this, but it is crucial to be as organized and efficient as you can. There are so many moving parts, just to generally understand the ins and outs before you dive in, saves you from learning the “hard way”. Ultimately, it has brought my family together even more and I feel like I am slowly earning a masters in business haha. Especially with the digital landscape we sell our products in now, you can only know so much, everything is changing constantly-  so hold on tight and pay attention.

What advice would you give to new environmentally friendly start-up companies?

Get a mentor, create an inspiring board of advisors, be organized, make sure the brand has a purpose so you can always show up smiling.

How do you define success for your business?

Every straw we sell is a piece of our success.

You’re also very successful outside of your Simply Straws business; did being a professional snowboarder have any influence on what you’re passionate about today?

Absolutely.  I was going to double major in Film & Kinesology and minor in physiology at University, but I have still not had time to attend collage. So I have been immersing myself in as many programs as I can, and funny enough- I am still fascinated by those topics. I always wanted to learn everything and found collage restrictive for all the topics that I wanted to study. Now I am studying to be an nutritionist, I teach yoga + meditation, I will start a permaculture farm in the coming years and draw knowledge from what I learned getting my permaculture certificate. I have also been studying phycology with Anthony Robbins’s programs and many others. There is so much valuable information out there.

Now after many years of studying under some of the best teachers in the world, I am setting out to teach in intimate settings at our PRSNT Performance retreats, workshops and camps. I have been preparing the last few years for this opportunity. We had our first event in Trondhiem, Norway January 9th and it was massively fulfilling. It is an honor to create a safe space to learn, apply knowledge and practice. We eat clean food, learn about nutrition, practice meditation and yoga in a really goofy fun environment. Each experience is paired with an outdoor yang activity and a proper digital detox. The aim is to create a portal of presentness that will help you reconnect with yourself, your spirit, your dreams and revive you so you can resonate from your best self.

What things in your daily life do you do to help reduce the impact of everyday waste?

I use my reusables every day of my life. I support brands that have a positive impact on the earth, animals and us humans. I vote with my purchases and sign petitions regularly. I aim to plant seeds of information whenever I get the opportunity. I live with love and gratitude for my life, my health, our global community and the earth that provides us with everything we need to thrive. I manifest I have inspired you to live with purpose & intention.

Creating Positive Energy In Your Business

Creating Positive Energy In Your Business

Everything in life is made of energy and all of this energy needs to flow creatively and freely. When energy is blocked it comes to a standstill and reverts into a negative entity. This entity creates sickness, emotional turmoil, and an overall negative feeling within your being. This energy also exists within your business. A business that is stuck or blocked possesses this negative energy.

I work with energy on a daily basis and never take it for granted. As a Reiki Master/Teacher and a coach for those with Empathic abilities I am conscious of energy at all levels. Energy is a basic building block of our world, both physical and spiritual, and we also need to create a positive energy in our business to allow the creative flow of this energy. This creative flow allows your business to succeed with peace and ease.

Since I own a holistic business and practice these methods of creating such energies, I would like to share some methods that create this energy into your business. None of these being hard by any means, just methods of projecting mindfulness into all aspects of your business.

Your business space

Is this space cluttered and in chaos? Clean it; clear it of all unnecessary clutter, this removes old and or negative energy and raises its vibration. Create a space that is peaceful to your mind and soul, a place you want to be in. Don’t be afraid to Smudge (Sage) your space. Doing this removes all negative energies for the space and new scientific studies have proven that smudging does actually removes impurities from the air in your space. Place bowls of salt or a salt lamp in your space to further remove negative energies. The salt lamps are great for removing negative ions from the space especially near or around electronic devices. Use protective stones and crystals within your space, some good protective stones that repel negative energy are Onyx and Obsidian.

Your mind and body

Take some time for yourself prior to beginning any business activities. I know this sounds like the impossible, but it is necessary in order to create these positive energies.
Use essential oil or scent such as lavender, eucalyptus, rosemary, etc. to calm and relax yourself. Meditate, go outside for some sun, doing any type of physical activities that will help you stay grounded in your body. (e.g. Yoga, Tai Chi, martial art, jogging, boxing, exercise, or some kind of sports you enjoy, etc.), get some fresh air. Surround yourself around plants or trees of high energy and get grounded with them. Drink pure water. (Bless your water with positive energy before drinking it. And remember to thank it for purifying your body as you drink it.) Eat proper balanced nutritious meals and feel your emotions, always feel your emotions.

Only after these practices should you start to conduct your daily business routine. Be mindful of all processes of these practices and then invite them into every process of your business to create a constant positive energy. Do not allow the daily hectic stressors to break down any of this energy you have created and you will succeed peacefully as an entrepreneur.

Could Health be the Cause of Hair Loss

Could Health Be The Cause Of Hair Loss

Could Health Be The Cause Of Hair Loss

COULD HEALTH BE THE CAUSE OF HAIR LOSS

Article by Melva Williams
Magazine: Issue #35

So many people are unaware of how their health can cause hair loss. Some of us have not made the connection of how our medical issues and hair issues are related. Anything that affects your blood stream is going to affect your hair. Most people see hair loss as an external problem; things that cause external hair loss such as too tight weaves, braids, and chemical over-processing. But there are internal reasons why we lose our hair as well, such as poor diet, hormones, stress, medications, over exercising, and hydration. All these things have to do with internal issues that can lead to hair loss but often over looked.

The roots of your hair are nourished by tiny blood vessels called capillaries. If the circulation to these blood vessels is disrupted, they can fall or break. It is for this reason that the internal issues can cause hair loss.

Hair growth is regulated by hormonal changes in the body. These hormones can affect not only how much grows, but whether growth stops and new hair grows.

The hormones with the most direct effects on the hair growth are androgens, the male sex hormones that include testosterone. Changing your diet, avoiding excessive caffeine, and exercising. This reduces stress and gives you balance. When it comes to medication and medical issues, always check out the side effects yourself to see if they list hair loss. These drugs interfere with the hairs normal growth cycle allowing the follicles to go into a resting phase for a longer period of time. Consult with doctor for any changes in medication if you notice hair loss. For strengthening your hair, talk with stylist or hair care professional about protein treatments that build up your hair.

Then there are the stress factors...

Severe stress causes white blood cells to attack the hair follicle, stopping growth and making the hair fall out.

Emotional or physical stress pushes large numbers of growing hairs into a resting phase, after a few months the affected hairs suddenly fall out when combed or shampooed. Last, the irresistible urge to pull hair from your scalp (picking in head); this is a way with dealing with anxiety, tension, loneliness, fatigue or frustration. These that I have outlined are just a few, but there are many other reasons for internal hair loss causes.

I see so many women today going natural for various reasons. One of the concerns is that I heard some say it’s the stylist or the chemicals that brought out my hair. The truth of the matter is it could be one of those or neither. It could very well be what’s going on with your body that's causing your hair loss. When going natural the whole idea is to go back to the basics. Taking it back to the roots, so to speak. For some this works, for others it may not if there are issues lying dormant. So what happens when you go natural and your hair is still not healthy, not growing, or you’re still having hair loss?

We can’t continue to cover up what’s going on with our hair. It’s ok to wear wigs, weaves, and braids as an extension of ourselves. What happens when you can no longer wear chemicals because of hormonal issues or high blood pressure medication because your body is reacting with the chemicals? When you’re tired of all this and finally decide, I want to wear my own hair!

This is where you must educate yourself, whether client or stylist. You must expand your knowledge of the internal things that cause hair loss. First, by knowing your body, giving an honest account of where you are in your health, diet, and fitness regimen. Next, are you on any medications or have medical reasons that cause hair loss? What is your stress level, any hormonal imbalances, or anemia? Last, are you hydrating yourself properly?

I have given you information on some of the internal cause of hair loss. Have you begun to connect your dots of how your medical issues and your hair issues are related? Remember, whatever is going on inside will eventually show up on the outside.
