Strategy for Making More Money in 2016

Strategy for Making More Money in 2016

As the year comes to a close, I cannot help but reflect on the past. From my crazy years as an unruly adolescent to the big move to San Francisco at the age of 18— I'll say it humbly, I’ve always been a rebel. Like most entrepreneurs, I don’t like to be told what to do. Instead, I prefer someone to help me see challenges through a new lens so I can make up my own mind and make my own decisions-- in business and in life. And here at Holistic Fashionista, that’s exactly how we help our clients too.

We don’t believe in hierarchy, the coach-to-client relationship or the I'm an the teacher and you're the student mentality. It feels contrived. After all, we aren't know-it-alls, we're a team and we like to dance to the beat of our own drum. Plus, our goal is to be a powerful team together, not give or take orders!

But even for the most independent and self-assured entrepreneur doesn't likes to break rules, live on the edge, take chances, or endure that begrudging leap of faith. In fact, most boutique brands are playing it too safe, even though they have big dreams and financial goals to reach. Why is that? Whether it’s increasing your advertising budget or speaking on stage, each and every one of us has fears that need to be faced before we can get to the next stage in our businesses. 6-Figures? 7-Figures? Touch more lives? You decide what the next stage is for you, then we'll support you in getting there!

Since 2016 is right around the corner, I can’t help but stare rebellion straight in the eye and say, “I'm ready! Show me the way.” Just like anyone, from time to time I can get a little complacent and fall into the traps of playing it safe, but with new goals to tackle in 2016, I’m ready for more and I’m taking you with me!

So let’s break it down:

Where is your rebellion barometer:

While I am no psychologist, I believe rebelliousness comes from a strong desire to think, feel, and do what’s in your heart even if it makes waves, furrows brows, and ruffles a few feathers. If we’re going to get to know ourselves better so we can break-free from our insecurities and rock out 2016 to the fullest, the first things we need to do a little soul searching. So I'm going to suggest asking yourself harder questions.

1) Where am I playing it safe?

2) What am I afraid of?

3) How can I test the waters without jumping all in?

4) Is there a way to get what you want without gambling?

As much as rebellion wants you to jump in with both feet and rock the boat, rebellion isn't running the whole show-- and doesn't need to be. We simply need to recognize that a desire for different results will require a change. And with change, rebellion is perking his little head up and ready to get fired up! Tame the rebellion by taking incremental steps, test the waters, and notice what kind of results you get.

How to use rebellion without giving the birdie:

From time to time, your rebellious attitude may feel like a fuck-it attitude. No I’m not talking about giving someone the birdie or parachute sailing, I’m talking about breaking down the fear that is preventing you from making more money in your business, changing more lives, and releasing all those limiting beliefs that are keeping you stale.

Perhaps you didn’t spend much on advertising this year or hire that much needed assistant, somewhere in your money story you were holding on too tight, which was preventing you from taking the next leap of faith in your business. Where are you holding on too tight? Make a list of areas in your business that are being run by fear. Then, ask yourself how your business might look differently if you did the unthinkable. This may cause of increase in blood pressure, but it will challenge you to see the areas in your business where you are playing too safe. Take inventory.

Rebellion is a sacred act when it is honed carefully. It allows you to think before you do, but to still act courageously and with integrity. The easiest way to tap into it, is to feel where you are holding on too tight. Once you can feel the tightness, you’ll better understand where you need to loosen the reigns and let go.

Why rebellion is a key ingredient to sensational:

Rebellion allows us to see the world differently, and as a result, our creativity skyrockets. Beautiful concepts, ideas, and businesses have been birthed from rebelling against the mainstream, pop culture, or even dissociating with what is considered acceptable. When we aren’t afraid to use our voice to speak up, be heard, put a piece of our soul out there for the world to judge, we grow as human beings.

The more often you practice rebelliousness, the more in tune you become with yourself and the idea of taking a chance or a leap of faith becomes second nature. It's just part of the process. It’s not longer about “will it”, it’s about “what if.”

As you set your New Years goals, remember that manifesting what it is you desire is possible. If you can’t imagine it happening, it can’t be birthed. if you’re too scared to take a risk, you’ll never know. If you're too caught up in the outcome, you'll never get started. Embracing rebellion isn’t about hurting other people or causing chaos (ok, well maybe a little), it’s about challenging yourself and others to dig deeper into themselves so they can finally discover what has been holding them back. Once you've done that, you'll achieve different results. So what's the harm in that?

If you want to go from good to sensational, rebellion is the quickest path to cash!

To be rebellious in business means to take chances, to believe you will be carried no matter how out on a limb you go to make your business work… for you. If you want to make more money, then it's time to stop playing it safe. Allow the Universe to provide for you by taking a leap of faith. You just might find that you will be carried.

Projecting the Culture of Your Brand

Projecting the Culture of Your Brand

Projecting the Culture of Your Brand

As entrepreneurs we sell our brand, our business and ourselves in order to solve a problem. How we project our business and ourselves to our customers today is of the upmost importance. How our customers or clients perceive us personally and as entrepreneurs is what can make or break us. The difference between success and potential failure.

The most important thing to remember that is we have so many tools available to us.

The days of owning a brick and mortar business, and just running an ad to bring business to us has been over long ago. But we all know that, we have every app, social media and so many other avenues to bring customers and clients to us and we need to project our brand equally through each resource.

I have seen many entrepreneurs project larger than life on the internet and social media only to work closely with a client and not be prepared to provide product or services as stated in this larger than life projection. If we project magic products or project that we are experts in any particular field, then we need back up these events. A customer or client will see right through it, if you are not what you say you are. We need to be real and prepared with every client every time, so the importance of being exactly who you are is important.

Since social media is a huge must have for business owners, we need to be cautious upon how we are perceived to each and every customer or client. I have noticed totally by accident that we all have three personalities when reaching out from behind a computer.

Three personality traits:

Our social media personality.
Our actual personality.
Our perception of our personality.

When we project our brand or image on social media we can sometimes create an image that is much bigger than we actually are. It is so easy while tapping away at your laptop to enhance our product or talents. This is easy due to the fact that we as humans have been desensitized to the event of simple everyday contact, eye to eye contact. The event of being and the energy felt from this type of contact is not always transferable through electronic means.

Those who know us well most likely know our actual personality better than ourselves. They will experience the energy of your personality on a daily basis and can be a great resource in assisting you in informing you on social media events prior to releasing them.

Most people with have a perception of who they are, we live this every day! But when trying to exist in business this perception needs to be real and in close alignment with the other two personalities. When this alignment of all three personalities closely match one another you are projecting your culture properly. We need to be real in all platforms in order to succeed, be conscious of your projection to the world.

The Coaching Curse: Why You Really Can't Find Your Voice

THE COACHING CURSE:
Why You Really Can't Find Your Voice
Issue #30: Letter from the Editor

CEO/Founder: Angel Quintana
Magazine: Issue #30

how-to-find-your-voice.jpg

If you’ve been working at your business for a couple years now and you’re still in the phase of turning a profit, well, don’t worry you’re not alone. After numerous consultations with prospects and consulting sessions with clients, I’ve come to learn that the majority of new entrepreneurs are struggling with the same exact problem: finding their voice. I like to refer to this as The Coaching Curse.

The Coaching Curse is the inability to tap into your own creativity and thus you struggle to ever find your voice. You want to start a WebTV show, have toyed with the idea of launching a podcast, or when the keyboard hit the text edit document to write an article, the same exact problem shows up: you can’t hear your own thoughts. All you can hear is all those annoying voices from people you follow on Facebook or newsletters you subscribe to.

Before you know it, The Coaching Curse has taken over your soul, and you’re left with two options: follow the crowd and become a copycat or you take a step back and call bullshit on the entire industry. Am I right?

I know this not only from the personal struggles I hear from clients, but I was once right there struggling with the same problem— But instead of falling into the copycat syndrome, I got hella angry and decided to rebel against the industry.

Here are three tips to help you rebel against The Coaching Curse and
finally find your own original voice:

Unsubscribe from 90% of Newsletters:

Yup, you heard me right. If you can bring yourself to unsubscribe to the majority of ezines, you’ll stop feeling like you’re missing out and start focusing on what it is you want to say. You might have been coerced to thinking all the Gurus have all the answers to your problems, but you’d be mistakenly incorrect. The only person who knows what’s best for you… is YOU. Stop your excessive desire to fill your brain with more ideas and sit down and find your own thoughts.

Stop Asking Others for Advice:

And yes, this includes your mom too. It’s only natural when we are excited about something and/or are having a problem with something in our business that we want to share it with people we are closest to. The problem is, most of your friends and family members (are not entrepreneurs) will generally always want to provide their two cents and be helpful because they love you and want you to see you thrive, but they aren’t you ideal customer. Furthermore, they are filling your head with their voice, and alas preventing you from finding your own. Stop asking everyone else what they think and start asking yourself different questions. You’ll be astonished how miraculous the brain can be when it’s trying to problem solve! Give it a try.

Make a List of 50 Things:

This is a miracle worker when struggling to find your voice in business. Pull out a pen and paper (yes, I truly mean a pen and not your keyboard— creativity works best when the ink hits the paper) and make a list of 50 things you are passionate about, topics that get you jazzed up, bullshit tactics you want to call bullshit on, and what subjects you want your customers to start thinking about that aren’t currently being talked about in a real way in your niche. When you get to number 25, this exercise gets hard, but I assure you by the time 45 comes around, you’re going to want to go to 100!

And remember, to have a successful business, you’re going to have to wear many hats, but if you can’t keep the role of the Entrepreneur inside you excited, you’re going to fall off the wagon. That means you’ll either want to give up, take a step back, or be tempted to thinking someone else has a better idea for you. It’s all nonsense.

Finding your voice is one of the key ingredients to the success of your business. Copycat businesses will eventually go out of style and pretty soon, everyone will be calling you a bullshitter too. Don’t fall into The Coaching Curse. Find your voice and forget about what everyone else thinks or does. You became an entrepreneur because you had BIG ideas, not mediocre ones and not ones that were created by someone else.

Best of Luck!
Angel

The Secret to Finding the Best Mentor

THE SECRET TO FINDING THE BEST MENTOR
{The Ultimate Success Strategies}

The Secret To Finding The Best Mentor

The Secret To Finding The Best Mentor

If you have read the book “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill, then you know the importance he places on mentoring. Napoleon’s conclusion was that, if you want to grow beyond where you are presently in any area of your life, mentoring is a must to proceed in a timely fashion.

I cannot stress enough to you how important mentorship is. Once I made the decision to take action and hire a mentor, my life changed tremendously, as if all-of-a-sudden I was in the flow with the Universe for the first time; we were in sync and synchronicities became a norm in my life…Keep reading if you want the secret, it’s not all about the mentor…

There are many factors that Napoleon mentions on importance of mentorship, but I want to address the top 3 Success Strategies:

Success Strategy 1| Always Listen to your IGS
IGS stands for Internal Guidance System. Simply put, your gut instinct or your intuition. This needs to become your #1 mentor before any other mentor in your life. Being able to respect your mentor’s teachings, yet being able to discern what is best for you in the end. Using your IGS is imperative to your success and moving forward. Being able to tap into this innate knowledge of your soul is one of the more important strategies you should use in everything you do.

Success Strategy 2| Hire a Mentor that Values Himself or Herself
Remember you are hiring a mentor to emulate their energy, their values, and their genius. If your mentor is not currently valuing himself or herself by asking what they are worth, then how do you expect to ask for what you are worth? If the person that is guiding you has a hard time doing it, then you might want to ask yourself if they are the right mentor for you.

There are a lot of mentors that are still having a hard time valuing themselves and what they have to offer. This becomes contagious and you may find it hard to value yourself or your work for your mentor will be guiding you from a place of lack.

When you are unable to see your worth than the world does not see it either.

Hire someone that has a good sense of value, self love and self-worth. You can always learn other pieces you need from others, but this one is something that can not be learned it has to be cracked open and only a great mentor can guide your inner self-worth out to shine to the world. After that everything starts falling into place.

Success Strategy 3| Making Authenticity your Mantra
There are a lot of mentors out there that are not authentic. They may put on a face that they are at first, until you find out that their whole program was someone else’s, just tweaked to use as their own.

Do your research on the mentors you want to work with. Start with connecting to your own IGS and see what it tells you- you know your first instinct is usually correct. When you feel that uneasy feeling when someone talks about something… This is your IGS in overdrive screaming run the other way!

Authenticity is key. This will be the key to your own success in life and business and it is key in finding the perfect mentor.

When they are not connecting with you at your level and come off as too perfect, they are inauthentic. They are not confident in what they do, so they can’t be authentic. When a mentor is confident in who they are and what they do there is no need for them to be inauthentic. They simply know that by being their authentic true selves, what needs to be said and created will be.

As you can see, these 3 Success Strategies are not just for hiring a mentor, they are also success strategies to live by on a daily basis.

I want to leave you with one last thought… You are the best mentor that money can by. You know your needs better than anyone else, no matter their education or experience. Always trust your IGS, but be open to mentorship, for it is a must to take you beyond your comfort zone- and this is where the magic happens!

Here’s to YOU, the best mentor you can find and being open to the magic of what unfolds by working with the right mentor.

How to Build a Brand Without Stressing Out

HOW TO BUILD A BRAND WITHOUT STRESSING OUT

Article: Angel Quintana
Photo: Dasha & Mari

If you've attempt to start a business, you know what I'm talking about. The voyage into entrepreneurship comes with quite a topsy-turvy roller coaster ride or decision-making and emotions. Over the course of nearly two decades of starting and running a business, stress is and will always be a factor not to take lightly because when it comes to building a brand, the to-do list nearly seems endless.

But let's face stress dead in the eye and come to the conclusion that stress is part of the journey. However, as a holistic business, we know better than to punch walls or scream at the dog-- it's just not very zen of us, but let's not pretend we are super humans. We have emotions too and well, stress, can take a hold of us from time to time. The goal is to reduce stress and to find your sweet spot (a balance where stress keeps you motivated, yet doesn't interfere with how the business is functioning, ie: customer service, customer retention, + others.)

Here are some sweet spot stress-free tips to keeping your eye on the prize and your luxury brand stay sparkling and organized:

1) Mind Your Own Business, Peeping Tom

There is nothing for stressing (or distracting) than spending your time snooping on what every one else is up to in your industry. In fact, the more time you waste focusing on anything other than YOUR business, is an instant way to add more stress into your life and business. I know, it's hard not to compare yourself to someone who's claiming to be more successful than you, but it's just a trap.

Even if you think checking out someone's website or following their social media feeds are harmless, take note to when your stress creeps up again. I'm pretty sure you'll find it was the second you stopped minding your own business and started paying attention to someone else's. Stop this dirty habit in it's track by keeping a to-do list next to your computer, for the next time you feel like being a peeping tom, remind yourself you have a lot of things to get done.

2) Don't Sweat the Small Stuff, Instead Sweat it Out!

Look, I'm the last person to be giving fitness advice, but that's only because I learned the hard way. After working myself to the bone, 7 days a week 14-16 hour days, it wears you down. Being susceptible to stress attacks happens when the pressure appears too daunting and alas, a freak out is in order. However, breaking a sweat at the gym or for 20 minutes at home with a couple dumbbells introduces a euphoric high.

I'm not saying breaking a sweat is going to cure all your worries, but it just might be enough to prevent you from telling Sally Jo to go shove it where the sun don't shine. As luxury brand owners, we have to keep our cool-- after all, we've got an image to uphold and having an stressful episode is not demure, sexy, or professional. When nothing else works, go for a walk or a sprint to get that blood moving through the veins. Then come back to your desk and ask yourself, "was she really worth all that effort?" Of course not.

3) Buy a Big-Ass Board, And Make a Long-Ass List

After drooling over beautiful offices in Rue Magazine, I started noticing a trend. That trend was the handy, over-sized chalkboard. This wall sized chalkboard not only looks way cool in an office environment, it also serve a dutiful purpose: list making. Function paired with aesthetics is a great combo, especially when it comes to reducing stress.

Use the big-ass board to not only draft your to-do's, but to visually pat yourself on the back by crossing those important tasks off the list. Your brain will produce Serontin (the good mood chemical found in our bodies), which is an instant mood booster! I can't tell you how many times myself and my team are skipping yankee doodle dandy by the end of the day from just crossing out completed tasks! By the workday comes to an end your batteries are recharged and your ready for a great evening! Give it a try.

4) Practice Gratitude: Remember, It's NOT So Bad

Just the other day I felt a stress attack coming on and I really did NOT want to go down that road. I knew my brain was playing tricks on me again, and as that silly rabbit says, "Trix are for kids." Instead of letting Negative Nelly take over my emotions, I started talking to myself out loud. What I said was, "I am thankful for my dogs. I love my clients. I'm so lucky to have married the right man. I have a lot. Don't forget how much you really have."

I said this over and over again, and you know what? It worked. I started focusing my attention on everything that was going RIGHT, instead of the one thought that was looking to stir the pot. It's amazing how powerful our brains are and how tricking those little turds can be at any given moment. It takes a lot of willpower and strength to see past the money mind and move forward with poise and gratitude.

The next time that icky stressful feeling start coming on strong, tell it to beat it. Find ways to reduce stress while building your luxury brand so you can grow it into what you always dreamed it could be: magnificent. Remember this if nothing else, no one can run your business like you can, even if someone else in your industry is claiming to have super powers-- we know you can't trust everything you read. Plus, you've got a long-ass list to accomplish this week and you can't let anyone stand in your way from accomplishing your goals.

Once you start seeing that chalkboard full of cross out tasks, that happy hour cocktail will taste that much better because there is nothing more rewarding to an entrepreneur than reaching a milestone, increase profitability, and remaining calm as you reach for the stars.

How to Get Publicity for Your Holistic Business

How to Get Publicity for Your Holistic Business

How to Get Publicity for Your Holistic Business

HOW TO GET PUBLICITY FOR YOUR HOLISTIC BUSINESS

Article: Angel Quintana
Photo: Dasha & Mari

One of the biggest hurdles holistic businesses face when trying to grow their business online is publicity. Publicity is a form of credibility that will help to position your holistic business as the go-to solution for a specific problem. It is also a way to bring you (the business owner) clout as you continue to market your business.

Publicity comes in many different forms. It is essential to not only showcase your publicity on your website, but to also be selective about the right publicity you entertain. When you have the right publicity in place it will help you standout online amongst other business owners.

No matter what form of publicity you have: advertising, public relations, and promotions, expect a gradual increase in your brand awareness. While some publicity is free and others might be paid, publicity is necessary when growing a holistic business online..

Here are a few good examples of the right publicity you should strive to receive as you grow you holistic business online:

Write for a Magazine:

Getting featured in a print or online magazine doesn't have to be difficult or time consuming. In fact, if you have done something noteworthy in your business (I believe having any kind of holistic business is incredibility noteworthy), it's important to let the media know. When the media takes notice of your work, there is a chance they will feature you in their publication.

Other magazine publicity includes showcasing your expertise in a magazine or on blog. The easiest way to get featured in a magazine or a blog is to contact the editor. Because many blog authors and magazine editors are bombarded with tons of emails each day, getting a response can be difficult, but never give up. Some magazines and blogs, such as Holistic Fashionista magazine and the Huffington Post, accept new writers regularly by merely submitting a sample of your work. If you are interested in sharing your expertise in Holistic Fashionista magazine, simply join The Club.

Host a Webisode TV Show:

Knowing someone will always be the easiest way to get free media attention, but don't worry. There are lots of other ways to get media attention that doesn't have to cost a pretty penny. After all, you got into business to make money, not to spend it all trying to get your holistic business off the ground.

Be in the right place at the right time--- or better yet, have it planned to be in the right place at the right time. If you know a television station is looking for a new story, why not be right in front of them when they are looking? This might include making phone calls (and leaving numerous messages, until you get that phone call returned), but it's worth it. If you want to be on television, the best way to do so, is to make those hard calls. If they happen to give you short notice, make a run for your travel agent and get on a flight. Tell them you were going to be there tomorrow anyway.

Another way to get featured on TV is to host your very own WebTV show on YouTube. If you didn't know, Lena Dunham from Girls started her career as a webisode before being picked up by HBO. The power of YouTube is undeniable. If you are the face of your holistic business and you're ready to increase your publicity, than video is definitely the way to go. If you are unsure as to how to start a YouTube webisode, consider joining HFTV, Holistic Fashionista Television available to our Club Members.

Start a Podcast or Radio Show:

Podcast is becoming a huge asset to many businesses online. In fact, with more and more embracing iTunes as their go to resource when they can't be behind their computer to gather information, wouldn't it be wise to host your very own podcast to grab the attention of your audience? I do.

Starting a podcast is an incredibly powerful form of publicity, and with a few inexpensive pieces of equipment, you can have a podcast up and running in literally a couple days. If you're considering starting your own podcast, be sure to have a marketing plan before you get started. There is nothing worse than spending time creating great content and lining up experts to interview only to have a nominal amount of people tune in to listen.

Starting a podcast to promote your holistic business is a great idea and an even better publicity strategy. Podcast is the new term for creating a web-based radio show and if you're looking for radio publicity, starting your own podcast is instant publicity.

If you're serious about growing your holistic business online, then there is no better time than right now to give your expertise the exposure it deserves. Whether you've got a website up and running or celebrating 10 years in business, gaining publicity for your business is a never-ending process. The more able you are to stay in the view of your target audience, the more people will learn of your business, what you offer, and when the time is right-- they just might become a die hard customer or lifetime fan. And that's great publicity!

HOW TO PROMOTE AND MARKET A HOLISTIC BUSINESS

Promoting a holistic business needs to be done with care. You got into business to make money, but you also got into business to truly make a difference. That ingredient is what makes you different. You see, your message is about humanities and love. Not to sound mushy here, but when you market a holistic business you need to do so with care.

As a holistic business, you have a personal attachment to what you are selling because (most likely) you once struggled with this problem. So when you reach down deep in your soul, it doesn't a part of you and that is what expected of you as a leader in your niche

Let me give you some tips on how to promote and market your holistic business so you not only stand out in a saturated market, but you take competition out of your vocabulary because you know you are one-of-a-kind.

Tip #1: Have a Strong Voice

Now, this doesn't mean you can be controversial or even rebellious-- in fact, I would recommend that you be both. The biggest hurdle to showing up on social media, in your articles, and your ezine is to do it with a strong voice. If you water down your message, you're going to sound like everyone else.

This could also mean coming up with your own terminology or buzzwords. Think about how you speak to your friends, what words have you made up or use frequently to get your point across? Is there humor in there somewhere? If you can use your real personality to generate buzz around your holistic business this will get people talking about you and referral-based marketing is the best (and FREE) promotion ever!

Tip #2: Keep it Designer

Another great way to promote your holistic business that will set you up for success is to assure that everything you put out into the ether is TOP NOTCH. This includes copywriting, advertisements and marketing collateral, professional photography, and consistency. When you position your holistic business like a luxury brand, your perceived value increase and that's what I like to call a great marketing strategy!

Tips #3: Establish Expert Status

Everyday you should ask yourself, "What can I do today to show I am an expert at what I do?" This will help you with all your social media posts, articles, and more. Knowing you are an expert at what you do isn't enough to win the business. You're going to have to show, without being trite, that you know your stuff.

Showcasing testimonials occasionally in your social media posts or on your website is a must. The more you clout you can build, the better. This also goes with finding the right publicity. You never want to hurt your reputation by showing up on an unprofessional blog or website, or worse on the cover of a magazine that looks like poo poo. Trust me, as much as you think being on the cover of just any magazine give you credibility, the fact is, it doesn't-- especially if you are looking to position your holistic business as a luxury brand.

Tip #4: Don't be a Bad Salesman

Whether you like it or not, every entrepreneur must be a salesman to some degree. You know your product better than anyone else and it's always a good idea to polish up your salesmanship. Being a bad salesman merely means-- your sales tactics are working. If you are currently experiencing a lack of sales or customers, if could very well be your approach to sales.

Sharpen your sales skills by sharing more of your authentic voice, instead of drowning it out with ambiguity. Your people are actively searching for you, but if they can't hear you (or don't want to hear you), you'll never be able to serve them. Salesmanship comes from a deep understanding of knowing and believing 100% that your product or service solves their problem.

That said, you don't need to force your product down anyone's throat, if you done your job correctly and your sales skills are shining through the right customers will knock on your door. The more you work on your selling your products with your own authentic voice, the sooner your tribe will be able to find you and start speaking your same language. And that's great promotion!
