What is the Real Definition of Sexy?

At the Teen Choice Awards, actor Ashton Kutcher revealed 3 secrets to being really truly sexy. He’s so right on, I just had to share these secrets with you. Our society really has “sexy” all wrong! It focuses on the external – one’s looks, dress, posture, and interpersonal behavior. Society’s definition is really a slippery slope! It leads us to the superficial, to objectification, and to ignore the components of “sexy” that REALLY count.

Showing Your Color: Superstar Quality

SHOWING YOUR COLOR: SUPERSTAR QUALITY
Issue #20: Letter from the Editor

showing-your-color

I’m not going to lie, asking for help can be hard for a type A personality… We’ve pulled up our big girl panties at a young age, perhaps even lost our childhood because we had to play ‘grown up’ before we really even wanted to. That’s the thing about over-achievers, we're always playing superstar even when we’re still figuring it out, trying to do our best despite our circumstances, and yet our mind is running on over-drive. That is until we’re stuck in our tracks, contemplating a better route to our destination.

After a workaholic year presented me with new opportunities (and intense problem-solving), I did something I have never done before. Something I have been putting off for years. Something that I couldn’t I really couldn’t teach myself (at least not yet, anyway)… The big "M" word clouding my view

For me, the best kept secret to running a successful business is making sure you have the right people helping you.

For me, the best kept secret to running a successful business is making sure you have the right people helping you— for me I needed exercise to lift my spirits, help me feel strong physically to prepare me for those entrepreneurial growing pains. And I did it publicly— yup, right there on Facebook.

Showing who you really are: the good, the bad, and the ugly in your blog posts, social media musings, and even in your consultations if what i like to call ‘showing your color’. It’s probably the 1 thing most small business owners are scared to do, for the fear of being un-liked. But it’s a secret to success!

This month at Holistic Fashionista is a time of renewed identity and unapologetic realness. This includes facing your money woes dead in the eye, working up a sweat to finish the projects that are keeping your mental capacity full, and seeing the future through rose-colored lens. Whatever’s holding you back or keeping you feeling stuck could just be a symptom of not showing your color or perhaps it’s a mentor or a program you need to start to see the big picture.

Antiperspirant & Deodorant: Is Yours Safe and Effective

Antiperspirant & Deodorant: Is Yours Safe and Effective

ANTIPERSPIRANT & DEODORANT: IS YOURS SAFE AND EFFECTIVE

Magazine: Issue #20

What do you use? What do you use to line your pits from stink and sweat?  I would really like to know. Being a person who is trying her best to use clean, safe and effective products... antiperspirant and/or deodorant seems to be one of the hardest to muddle through.

Here's the Good, the Bad and the Ugly; Review to Follow:

Antiperspirant: The GOOD: it keeps you from sweating, The BAD: it keeps you from sweating, The UGLY: it keeps you from sweating...

Explanation: Sweating is one of the best if not the best ways of releasing toxins from your body. When you use an antiperspirant it blocks this detoxification process.

Deodorant: The GOOD: it makes you smell nice, The BAD: it contains fragrance, The UGLY: Fragrance is an ingredient on products that can contain so many harmful chemicals that it's scary.  Those chemicals are considered "trade secret" so the company does not need to disclose what they are.  MOST of those chemicals have NEVER been tested for safety.

I will not even go into the correlation between breast/lymph node cancer that resides near the armpit and the fact that women who shave are at even greater risk due to open "sores" where the product is applied.  Now that I've said it let's hope you don't forget it and move on to find a solution!

Here's what I did.  I bought and tried several "safe" underarm deodorants to see how EFFECTIVE they really are....

Below is the chart for the safety ratings system I use from the Environmental Working Group

deodorant-hazard-key

What this means is that a product rated 0 is completely safe, all ingredients have been tested and all ingredients are safe for your body.  A product with a rating of 10 means go throw it in the garbage and don't ever put it on your skin again!

Ok so here's the lowdown.....

A. Tom's Long Lasting Apricot - This deodorant works.  It's not offensive, it's not thick or uncomfortable to wear.  The EWG rating for this deodorant is 3.  It's not a horrible rating and it's not a horrible product but I'm kind of miffed about the fact that they claim themselves to be "all natural" and they're not.  They truly are not.

B. Druide Citrus Zest - This product makes me feel more sweaty than when I started.  It goes on wet and feels wet.  The scent was ok but it's not for me.  It's rated a 2.  I will never buy this again!

C. Druide - Pur & Pure Unscented - This product is also rated a 2.  This product actually freaked me out a little bit.  It felt wet like it's scented counterpart above but as I used it, it acquired my underarm scent somehow.

So now I have BO scented deodorant.  And it's staying that way!!!  I have not used it for weeks... still smells like BO.  Eeeeewwwww!  I will never buy this again!

“5The

D. Junglemint All-Natural Deodorant - This stuff rates a 0!  And I kinda like it.  Once in a while it dries out a bit but if I wet it slightly it goes on nice.  I personally prefer it because it goes on dry instead of wet.  I will definitely be keeping this on hand.  But don't get it on your clothes!  NEVER on your clothes!

E. Thai Crystal Deodorant Stone - This thing is so freaking amazing!  It's a solid piece of "potassium silicate" which is basically mineral salts.  There is no scent.  The only downfall is that you have to wet it to use it.  I use it only at home.  I can't throw it in my gym bag. It's rated 1 on the EWG scale.  It's a good product that really surprised me. It's like rubbing a crystal on you pits.  I will definitely buy this again!  I'm really anxious to see how long the stick lasts.

F. Tom's Original Care Unscented - This product is rated a 2 rather than the apricot version above which scores at a 3.  I keep this product on hand and use it.  I'm still not happy with the all-natural claim from the company that truly isn't.  I will save it for backup only.

G. Soap Walla Deodorant Cream - This hand applied paste smells awful.  I used it once.  I don' know what's in it.  I don't care what it rates.  That's all. Sorry.

H. Truly's Cream Deodorant - This is also a hand applied deodorant.  Although the coconut scent was not offensive it was really strong and I went around smelling like an Mounds bar for an entire week.  Not a fan.  It's rated a 1 and totally safe.  I may keep it for my next beach vacation.  No one there will notice I smell like a pina colada!

So that's it!  I know there are others out there.  What do you use?  I know some people make their own.  This is just not my style.

The Art of Business: 4 Sacred and Juicy Steps to Having it ALL

THE ART OF BUSINESS:
4 SACRED & JUICY STEPS TO HAVING IT ALL

4 Steps to Having It All

4 Steps to Having It All

Can you believe that we’re still being told that women can’t have it all?!?! Maybe you’re even telling this to yourself. No worries, Dear SiStar, these sacred and juicy steps are a surefire way to get you moving into that place where you actually can have it all, in exactly the way you like.

STEP ONE

Define YOUR “all”. Clear away the influences, voices and advice of others. Your “all” is YOUR “all”! NO ONE else can define this for you, my Love. Not even societal views can truly define your personal “all”. When you have it, record a list of what makes up your “all”. When your list is done, connect with each list item, through your emotional body. Get intimate with your wishes. Feel them so deeply that you know where each one lives in your physical body.

STEP TWO

Discover what is really standing in the way of you having your all. This is the “tricky” step. I’m inviting you to discover what your “wounded self” is worried about, when it comes to having your all. No analysing allowed here. Rely on the the wisdom of your wounded self. Dig deep, on this one.

STEP THREE

Deliver the gift of your all, to your Divine. Take everything that you’ve gathered in steps 1 & 2, and allow the complete picture to emerge through your first eye of clear vision and intuition. Verbalize this aloud, via your heart center, to your Divine. Be clear. Be honest. Be emotional. Be whatever you are. Then, place this gift into the loving hands of your Divine. Open up to gratitude. Stay in gratitude for step 4.

STEP FOUR

Decide on three simple babysteps you could take toward having your “all”. Allow your Divine to inspire you here. Add a reasonable duedate for each one, and enlist an accountability partner to keep you on track with completing your list.

Congratulations! You are now powerfully poised for having it all.

3 Steps to Regaining Focus and Clarifying Your Vision

3 STEPS TO REGAINING FOCUS & CLARIFYING YOUR VISION

Regaining Focus & Clarifying Your Vision

Regaining Focus & Clarifying Your Vision

To live a life or business that integrates fully with who you are, it helps to hold a clear vision. But what happens if you’ve lost sight of your vision? Here’s how to defog the lenses and get back into action.

Steve Jobs said, “If you are working on something exciting that you really care about, you don’t have to be pushed. The vision pulls you.”

It’s wonderful to be motivated in our lives and business from that place of higher calling, but what happens when you get stuck and you’ve lost your way or your vision?

If you’ve sat down with a stack of magazines and a glue stick, ready to create your vision board and found yourself frozen, don’t despair. Here are three steps to regaining your focus and clearing the way for your vision to shine.

Face Your Fears. If you’re not willing to face your fears, you will never reach your potential. Fear is one of the biggest obstacles to acting on your vision. It manifests in all kinds of interesting ways, from a fear of expressing your uniqueness, to a fear of being judged, to a fear of success, among others. Fear is an insidious and equal opportunity emotion. Everyone has them.

In order to see farther, realize that fear is an extension of your ego and one of the biggest impediments to having a successful life and biz. Afraid of public speaking, join ToastMasters. Confidence wobbly? Hire a life coach to help you find your groove. Identify your fears and look them in the eye.

Don’t let fear keep you from your vision. In the words of Susan Jeffers, “feel the fear and do it anyway.”

Get uncomfortable. Comfort equals complacency. Vision implies forward movement, which you can’t do if you’re treading water (or munching on potato chips all afternoon as you watch a full season of your favorite HBO series).

“Join

When you stretch outside your comfort zone, you force yourself to grow. Keep reaching, keep learning, keep challenging yourself. Remember, success is about growth, not achievement. “Stay hungry. Stay foolish.” Your vision needs you to always be on the edge of your zone.

Quit the Blame Game. Take responsibility for your life and business. Stop using excuses to keep from living the life you want or having the business of your dreams. When you identify something that needs adjusting, just do it.

What are you doing with this lifetime? Take responsibility for everything in your life and watch your mojo rise to support your vision.

Want a super successful biz? A healthy bod? The relationship of your dreams? Whatever it is that is part of your vision, get cracking at it. Identify the blocks, make a “do” list and get moving.

You are responsible for your vision, and ultimately your success. Be willing to cleanse the lens of your vision. The world needs what you’re here to do.

Accomplish Your Goals by Focusing on 3 Key Areas

ACCOMPLISH YOUR GOALS BY FOCUSING ON 3 KEY AREAS

Accomplish Your Goals

Accomplish Your Goals

Article by Allison Snyder
Magazine: Issue #20

Have you ever had a dream, goal, or ambition that seems like it will always remain in the future, just slightly out of reach? Maybe you think you need more knowledge, more credentials, or more status before you can claim it as yours. Or perhaps you can clearly picture your dreams happening to someone else, but have an overly difficult time putting yourself in that same picture.

Does this sound like you?

If you can’t see yourself accomplishing your dreams and goals – living them, breathing them, and feeling them in the present moment, then they WILL always remain on the outer edge of your reality.

Why?

It’s simple. Envisioning success is directly linked to your belief that it will happen. You have to know without a shred of doubt that you have the ability to make it come true.

If this isn’t an easy task for you, don’t worry. You can reclaim your power to clearly see and ultimately achieve your goals by focusing your attention on the following areas:

1 :: Your Beliefs – In yourself, in the dream, and in the person you are today. When you think about your dream being fulfilled, what are the surrounding beliefs that surface? Do you think you have what it takes or are you harboring massive self-doubt and struggling with confidence underneath the surface? Do you sincerely believe in your goal or is it lacking in passion? Do you believe that you are missing something you need before you can achieve your goal, such as additional education, resources, or plans?

2 :: Your Fear – Related both to your brand and personally as an individual. Often the more our authentic self craves to fulfill a dream, the greater the resistance and more deeply seeded the surrounding fears are. Does the thought of accomplishing the goal bring up subconscious fears of not being good enough, not being validated, accepted, or not being truly seen? Do you these thoughts sabotage your brand because it is an extension of you?

3 :: Your Responsibility – To shine as brightly as you can. Are you secretly more afraid of succeeding then of failing or being rejected? Do you prefer to stay in never-ending planning mode, dreaming of grand visions and the future instead of taking action? Are you fearful of the power of your light, the leadership role it demands of you, and how it will change your life? What are you refusing to let go of, even though you know your time of expansion has arrived?

Taking an honest look behind the scenes can help you break through the resistance, bridge the gap, and see your vision with clarity that you can act on today!

Dreams to Reality: 4 Common Mistakes People Make That Halts the Fruition of Their Dreams

DREAMS TO REALITY: 4 COMMON MISTAKES PEOPLE MAKE
THAT HALTS THE FRUITION OF THEIR DREAMS

Article by Jentana Lee Dabbs

Dreams to Reality

Dreams to Reality

Do you have a dream, but it seems to be taking its sweet time to become a reality?  Have you experienced other people who have dreams that are similar to yours, but for some reason their dream came to fruition and you’re still waiting like a date who got stood up in a restaurant?

Over the years I would occasionally giggle at my friends when they were determined to make a dream happen that seemed far beyond reach based on their circumstances, skills or personality.  I rolled my eyes at a girlfriend (not to her face) who dreamed of singing on stage with a live a band, yet her singing was not music to anyone’s ears and I wanted to shake another girlfriend and bring her to her senses when she moved to New York because she envisioned her future husband being there, who would then romantically propose to her, while being presented with a huge rock for her finger (this is a girl who had consistent bad luck with men in the past.) To my amazement the girl who couldn’t sing in the past, is on stage shaking it up with a mic and a live band and my other girlfriend not only found the man of her dreams in New York, but she was given the same gigantic blue Cartier rock that Prince Charles gave to Lady Di when he proposed to her.

Though dreams can happen, there are 4 mistakes most people make that can slow down or even halt the fruition of one’s dream.

1| Isolation: Many times people think that they have to isolate themselves from the world so that they can focus on how to make their dream a reality and socializing only comes as a reward once they feel deserving.  The truth is that socializing really brings you closer to your dream through the contacts that you meet.

“50

2| Settling: Settling for a job, relationship or situation, is like telling the Universe, you don’t trust that your dream will happen and you’ve given up.

3| Comfort: Comfort actually kills in the long run, imagine a piece of fruit comfortably sitting in one place for too long, it eventually rots.  Discomfort means you are getting closer to your dream.

4| Playing it Safe:  Throughout history, the victors have always been the one’s who have taken risks.  A study done with fighter pilots have shown that the ones who played it the safest, were the ones that got hurt or killed and the ones who took the most risks came out as hero’s.  Smart risks equal rewards.

Remember that if you dream it, feel it and work it, then it will come to reality eventually.

The Truth Behind Success: The Long Range Goal

An Entrepreneur's Journey

An Entrepreneur's Journey

You have a dream, a goal, a deep desire…  You see yourself as a leader in your industry, or fully healed, or mega-successful with a huge business!

Then….reality sets in—long hours, frustrations, highs and lows, slow growth—now what?!?

While it is fine, even encouraged to develop a long range vision of where you are going, you also need to live in the moment—in your reality. For starters, step back and really look at yourself.  You know where you want to be, so now you need to honestly see where you are at this point in time.

Look at your strengths.  Be honest; too many times we sell ourselves short.

Make a list of your strengths—see it and believe it!  Now, for the not so fun part of introspection, take a look at yourself and see your weakness or rather areas for growth.  This is not easy but; it is vital for you to reach that long range goal.  This ‘look’ is not about beating yourself up, but rather helping you focus so you can grow into a leader.

So, now you have two lists, what else?  There is one more ‘look’ you need to take.  This one requires that you are totally honest with yourself.  Ask yourself—what is the one habit or tendency you have that seems to annoy just about everyone?

Write it down, study it, be self-aware—in what situations do you find yourself doing ‘it’?  Once you learn—you can harness ‘it’ and use ‘it’ to your advantage.  Odds are, this tendency is that ‘certain special something’ that can propel you forward.

This introspection is not a once and done activity.  You will find it necessary to do this periodically as your business grows or as it plateaus.  Knowing yourself is key to growing yourself and your business.
