Have you wondered how to trigger motivation and focus immediately and then keep it going? What about when you needed to write that article, clean the house or focus on reading something? Then there’s confidence, have you needed confidence to do a presentation, interview or talk to someone?

Numerous researches are proving that the key to triggering this quickly is through music.

Why?
Music has been shown to trigger memories, emotion and the most important dopamine in our brains which is responsible for motivation and focus. In addition, music releases endorphins in our brains, which is the feel good chemical, that is the same chemical released when we feel love, have sex, foods we crave and eat chocolate.

Listening to the right type of music is like rewarding our brains with something pleasurable, in fact, when our pleasure signals are lit up in our brains, we’re more able to stay focused and motivated at the task we’re doing. In the book “Drive”, by Danial H. Pink, he tells about a study that was done with monkeys in the 1940’s, the monkeys were given a puzzle to do and to the amazement of scientists, the monkeys stuck with doing the puzzle with complete focus and motivation, not because they were anticipating a reward, but because the act of doing the puzzle was triggering the pleasure center in their brain, causing them to stick to it.

Music stimulates pleasure.
Listening to music can do the same thing, while doing a boring task such as cleaning or reorganizing, because it’s rewarding our brains with pleasure, making us more able to stick to and complete the task we’re doing.

Music can give you a rush of unstoppable confidence.
A new study finds certain types of music, especially tunes with a heavy bass beat, such as 50 Cent's "In Da Club," Queen's "We Will Rock You" and 2 Unlimited's "Get Ready For This,” can make one feel more powerful. This sense of confidence and ability, the researchers add, can subsequently shape the way we think and behave.

Different music for different moods.
It’s important to take constant inventory of how a specific song affects your mood and mindset. Play around with lots of songs, artists and different genres knowing that all music is a powerful tool you can use to alter your perceptions at a neural level. Personally, when I’m writing and studying, I listen to mellow jazz or anything soothing with only music and no lyrics, when I want to clean the house, I listen to upbeat Broadway musicals that can trigger my emotions and when I want to feel powerful, my favs are Roar, Let It Go and Girl On Fire.

Dreams to Reality

Dreams to Reality

Do you have a dream, but it seems to be taking its sweet time to become a reality?  Have you experienced other people who have dreams that are similar to yours, but for some reason their dream came to fruition and you’re still waiting like a date who got stood up in a restaurant?

Over the years I would occasionally giggle at my friends when they were determined to make a dream happen that seemed far beyond reach based on their circumstances, skills or personality.  I rolled my eyes at a girlfriend (not to her face) who dreamed of singing on stage with a live a band, yet her singing was not music to anyone’s ears and I wanted to shake another girlfriend and bring her to her senses when she moved to New York because she envisioned her future husband being there, who would then romantically propose to her, while being presented with a huge rock for her finger (this is a girl who had consistent bad luck with men in the past.) To my amazement the girl who couldn’t sing in the past, is on stage shaking it up with a mic and a live band and my other girlfriend not only found the man of her dreams in New York, but she was given the same gigantic blue Cartier rock that Prince Charles gave to Lady Di when he proposed to her.

Though dreams can happen, there are 4 mistakes most people make that can slow down or even halt the fruition of one’s dream.

1| Isolation: Many times people think that they have to isolate themselves from the world so that they can focus on how to make their dream a reality and socializing only comes as a reward once they feel deserving.  The truth is that socializing really brings you closer to your dream through the contacts that you meet.

2| Settling: Settling for a job, relationship or situation, is like telling the Universe, you don’t trust that your dream will happen and you’ve given up.

3| Comfort: Comfort actually kills in the long run, imagine a piece of fruit comfortably sitting in one place for too long, it eventually rots.  Discomfort means you are getting closer to your dream.

4| Playing it Safe:  Throughout history, the victors have always been the one’s who have taken risks.  A study done with fighter pilots have shown that the ones who played it the safest, were the ones that got hurt or killed and the ones who took the most risks came out as hero’s.  Smart risks equal rewards.

Remember that if you dream it, feel it and work it, then it will come to reality eventually.

Delete “Lazy” From Your Vocabulary and Change Your Life

DELETE "LAZY" FROM YOUR VOCABULARY AND
CHANGE YOUR LIFE

Delete "Lazy" From Your Vocabulary

Delete "Lazy" From Your Vocabulary

Did you know that using the word “lazy” in your vocabulary can not only interfere with the success of your goals but it can greatly interfere with the success of other peoples goals if you label them as lazy too?

How many times have you found yourself saying, “I’m just too lazy to workout today,” “I’m too lazy to go to a networking meeting?”

And how many times have you labeled someone you know as lazy?

The Go To Label
The word “lazy” has been used as a label over the years to define the reason why a person is not achieving something or doing something that should be done towards reaching a positive goal.

Negative Label
The word “lazy” has a negative, underachieving stigma attached to it.   The word “lazy” not only brings up old feelings of worthlessness and underachievement, but it might cause you to beat yourself up every time that labeled act of laziness is repeated regardless of how much willpower you use towards not being lazy.

Willpower does not work
Many times when a person attempts to use willpower to overcome laziness, chances are high that the person is going to easily fall back into the same lazy pattern after a couple of times of using willpower.

Why
The origin of the word “lazy” goes back to the 1540’s and was spelled “laysy.”   It replaced native slack, slothful, and idle as the main word expressing the notion of "averse to work."  It also meant weak, feeble and tired.   Every time you call yourself or another person “lazy” you are affirming that you or another person does have an averse to work, is slack, slothful and idle as well as weak, feeble and tired.

Wrong Labeling
Because we live in a society of labels, I believe that the word “lazy” became a common label only because it seemed like the most logical word to use during a time when we didn’t know as much about the brain and habits as we do now.

Use The Correct Label
Many times when we don’t follow through on a goal, its not that we are being lazy, it simply means that the“HABIT” to achieve the goal has not been implanted.   The dictionary definition of “habit” is: an acquired behavior pattern regularly followed until it has become almost involuntary.

Delete Lazy Today
When you delete the word “lazy” from your vocabulary and understand that if you can’t get yourself to the gym, its not that you’re lazy, you just need to get into the habit of going, you might see yourself achieving your goals with much more effortless, success, in the future!
