Is It Time To Be “Irresponsible” For the Sake of Good Business?

IS IT TIME TO BE "IRRESPONSIBLE" FOR THE SAKE OF GOOD BUSINESS?

I just spent 6 days cycling/hiking in Zion National Park/Byrce Canyon – and it was absolutely amazing. As I checked this trip off my bucket list (which also includes climbing Mount Kili and chasing penguins in Antarctica), I got nostalgic about the days when I bumped around the world with a backpack and my Nikon FM2 (that uses film… remember those?)

Back in the days, my guts would simply say “I am going!” and off I went to Europe, Tibet, Scandinavia, Iceland, the Patagonia, Silk Road, the Eastern Bloc… you name it.

That was before the age of hyper-connectiveness… which means I actually had to “wing it” if something was not booked in advance. The most rewarding adventures often came with some level of following my guts and improvising as I went. “Where do I want to be next?” – and the “lack” of “planning” allowed possibilities to pour through.

Yeah, “booked in advance” - Somewhere along the way, “Planning” has become a “Virtue”…Somewhere along the way, we were told to buckle down, get a job and “be responsible.” Somewhere along the way, we shot down spontaneity communicated to us by our guts through feelings like thrill, elation, and butterflies in the stomach. Somewhere along the way, being “successful” got equated with “being in control” and “having a plan.” Somewhere along the way, we stopped listening to our GUTS and stifled our natural-born rights to LIVE brightly, loudly, unapologetically because we have to “grow up.”

There is so much creativity hidden in our natural instinct but we are pushing it down by denying our desire for exploration, adventure and spontaneity because others tell us “that’s how it’s done.”

Where In Your Business Are You Holding Back Your Creativity and Individuality By “Being Responsible”?

Of course, we are not asking you to gamble your house and lose your pants. Having the awareness that this hidden desire in us can help us HAVE MORE OF US in our business can ignite the FIRE and guide us to express our creativity and individuality – which will open up possibilities and potentialities that we didn’t know exist within us.

Are you implementing “proven” processes, blueprints and systems cookie-cutter style without asking – what do I WANT my business to do FOR ME?

Have you fallen into the comparison trap, “modeling” after everyone in your field and ended up with Frankenstein-marketing-copy that sounds just like everyone else… but nothing like YOU?

Have you had ideas that really pulled you but got shot down by some business coach because it doesn’t fit into his/her “paradigm” of how things are done… before you had the chance to explore all the angles and see how YOU, as you, can make it work for your business?

Reinventing the wheel is not smart, but letting the wheel determine how you roll sounds kind of ass backward too. Let’s play with these couple of questions:

What would you do and who would you BE if generating revenue
is NOT the top priority for the next 3 months?

What do you need to know in order to feel safe enough to jump?

Part of us need to feel safe before we DARE, and that’s totally cool. We all have different criteria in order to feel safe, before we can let free that wild part of us. Do not beat yourself up for needing more (or something different) to feel safe than “everyone else.”

Acknowledge what you need – because all parts of you need to be heard, if you want to have all of YOU in your business.

But make sure whatever you need to feel comfortable so you can dive into the deep end comes from YOU, not from other people’s standards of what “being responsible”, “being in business”, “being a success” should look like.

There, where the sunrise brings a promise of a new start; where the breeze of the ocean whispers good things to come; where the sunset kisses you and holds you in its arms; there, is the hidden gift waiting for a glance of our sight.

Everyday, I wake up wishing for a better world; a place where human beings are more connected with nature and each other; a place where words like ‘love’ and ‘compassion’ are more appreciated. Everyday, I strive to develop goals that will make a difference and positively impact our world; a world that continues to fall apart; a world that needs more love and attention from all of us.

As a fashion stylist, I search for inspiration through my surroundings and environment, as most artists do. Even the most insignificant, less appreciated things have the ability to give you the most beautiful and groundbreaking ideas.

One day, my fellow friends and fashion stylists, Marisa, Alex, and myself, decided to put together a low-budget fashion editorial that communicates one of the most harrowing issues our planet is facing today; drought. We were inspired by David Bowie’s brilliant performance in the 1970’s classic film, The Man Who Fell to Earth. The story follows David Bowie as an extraterrestrial who visits Earth, seeking a way to ship water back to his dehydrated planet. We loved the story and believe it tremendously relates to today’s reality. Life on Mars, arrival on Earth, and searching for water, the latter being incredibly symbolic to saving the planet, are the three elements behind the story of our editorial.

The editorial was shot in the abandoned remains of Sutro Baths in San Francisco, California. The location is a reminder of human materialism and destruction.

Our model, Vanesa Dzevdetbegovic, was styled in earthy, sleek lined, monochromatic clothing, to appeal to the modern and down-to-earth, yet edgy audience.

It may be unclear as to how drought and fashion relate, but I believe we can use a fashion editorial as a wake up call by delivering important themes and worldly issues to an audience, using not only photography and styling, but emotion, mood, and story, as well. I believe the resources we have at our disposal today will become scarce and potentially obsolete for future generations, if we do not take care of our planet now. We must love our home in order for it to love us back.

7 THINGS TO THINK ABOUT IF YOU DESIRE MORE IN YOUR LIFE

Article by Luisa Vasconcelos

It all comes down to love.

I started my business as an executive coach, to help women create the career they envisioned, starting with a power image, power poses and a powerful self-confidence.

As time went on, a kind of pattern started to become often, we would start our sessions talking about their jobs and would end talking about love, or to be more precise, the lack of it… and it didn't matter the country, age or cultural background, the lack of confidence to build a strong image and to achieve success at work almost always was the reflection of not loving themselves or desiring more love into their lives.

So I wanted to leave some ideas and see if you can get some insights out of them and, if you also feel like my clients and as I sometimes also felt, maybe you can move pass this and start calling love back to your live.

So 7 things you should think about:

1) If you want something why do you verbalize the opposite?

2) Get away from toxic people.

3) Learn how to ask for help (before saying that no one helps you).

4) Control your negative thoughts, as most of them never happen.

5) Start working on verbalizing your vulnerability; it will make you feel stronger.

6) Don't think you are alone, because you are not.

7) You are here to live your own life, this may sound like a simple affirmation but sometimes it’s hard to live by.

“Knowing others is wisdom, knowing yourself is Enlightenment.”
Lao Tzu

The best feeling in life is when you start finding your own truths and start tattooing them in your heart. This will make you feel extremely powerful and alive!
