I’ll admit it I’m a quote junkie!
Great quotes give you a dose of inspiration, but that inspiration can be fleeting.
So here’s my question:
How can you use inspiring quotes not only for momentary motivation, but as a tool for major momentum?
By making them actionable.
First up in this Creative Visionary series, are quotes by Apple founder, Steve Jobs. Enjoy!
1. Simplify
“That’s been one of my mantras — focus and simplicity. Simple can be harder than complex; you have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple.” ~Steve Jobs
Actionable: Are you overcomplicating what you do? When you’re asked the dreaded question: What do you do? or What are you working on? Do you freeze? If so, I want you to write down what you do and what you’re working on in 280 characters or less (that’s the length of two tweets). The real test is when you say it loud; so call a friend and run it by them.
2. Trust Yourself
“Don’t let the noise of other opinions drown your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition, they somehow already know what you truly want to become.” ~Steve Jobs
Actionable: Your intuition is your secret weapon. If you find that your inner voice is drowned out by external chatter, it’s time to go within. Take out your journal and write your biggest question right now. Next, spend 10 minutes journaling using this question as your prompt: If you were guaranteed success in this area, what would you do?
3. Reverse Engineer
“You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backward.” ~Steve Jobs
Actionable: Do you have shiny object syndrome? For example, let’s say someone in your industry starts doing YouTube videos. Do you find yourself wanting to do them too? To avoid doing this reverse engineer your vision. Where do you want to be in 5 years? Now what step do you have to take today in order to get there? Focus on that.
