There is a huge movement for women to embrace their highest potential, which I think is amazing! Emma Watson is a wonderful example of a young woman, who is taking a stand and speaking up for what she believes in, as she leads the “He for She” Campaign for women’s rights. I think she is a wonderful role model for young women to follow and become influential leaders for our generation. Influential people don’t have to necessarily be celebrities or global icons to make a difference. Everyone has the power for positive influence, and these are three ways to help you discover that drive within yourself.
Find Your Passion
You first have to find something that you are passionated about. This is what will drive you to create the activity you need to make a difference within your community. Your passion does not have to be women’s rights like Emma Watson. You might be passionate about other issues in which you could become involved. Whatever it may be, FIND IT! This is going to help you find fulfillment in something you care about, no matter how big or small it may be.
Invest in Yourself
To be a positive influence to others, you have to first start with yourself. As a leader, you will be setting yourself as an example for others, therefore you want to transmit confidence and strength to help empower others around you.
Give Back
Once you have found your passion, look for organizations where you can volunteer your time. This is a wonderful way to gain experience in leadership opportunities and discover things about yourself that you may not have known before.
By being yourself and helping others in any way, you are already making a difference in others’ lives. Some things might seem meaningless to you, but you never know what you will say or do to influence someone into becoming their better self. I always remember Maya Angelou’s quote, “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”
